I have a 97 5 speed and this is my first winter using it so please bear with me. Once I lock the hubs in how do I use the 4wd on the truck. I read the owners manual and it said while moving to shift into 4H but I wasn’t sure if I could stop or keep going if I was in 4h after I have shifted into it. If anyone can me me any steps to properly use the 4wd I’d really appreciate it!

Assuming J-Shift, I would be either stopped completely, or rolling under 5 mph. If it doesn't feel good, go slower.

Get some practice in on low traction surfaces- dirt road, snowy parking lot (should be easy to come by at the moment).

Few as possible, I really enjoy stock Tacoma's! Except small things, and maybe someday a supercharger.
I agree with Andy. your only doing it while moving to assist the gears in engaging correctly. 5mph, basically off idle.

If your hubs are locked you can shift from 2wd to 4hi, and back, any time, and at any speed. Don’t use 4wd on high traction surfaces like dry pavement.

I float in between 2hi and 4hi all the time while going down the road. The important thing to do is not to change while a tire is spinning or doing a burnout. You cans shift between 2hi and 4hi at up to 55mph. I'd stay out of 4hi on roads unless it's icy or slippery. 4lo you must be in neutral stopped to shift in or out.

If you're shifting into H4, then you can be driving normally and shift into H4 at whatever speeds at a maximum of 50mph. After you shift into H4 then you can drive however fast you want. Shifting into L4 you need to be stopped and in Neutral.

I just try to shift back and forth to/from 4hi with my foot off the gas. Other than that, anytime is fine.
