Currently im torn on find a used 2020+ head unit or buy a new aftermarket one to swap into my 2018. Wondering what everyone has done and if they like it or would change for something else if they could.

    Thank you!

I’ve got a Kenwood dvd player in mine Ddx 376bt , only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t receive text messages.

I bought the harnesses that made it plug and play the only connection that I had to make was for the powered antenna wire.

Aftermarket for sure. I have a 2022 and i got rid of the head unit. New Kenwood is leaps and bounds better and faster. Also WIRELESS carplay. That in itself was worth the upgrade to me.

I used a Maestro RR and with the right adapters, i have something completely plug and play

I also got ride on the entune unit (6 months new) as well because the signal from it going to my amp was subpar. After upgrading to a pioneer unit, my system sounded way better.

I also have a 22 and am in the process of piecing together a setup with an aftermarket head unit and a 5-channel amp. Did you end up using Crutchfield for your purchase? Because I see that once I added a headunit, they recommended the Maestro RR + 5~6 adapters to go with it. (like $240 in additional items)

Crutchfield is great, but I normally buy local. Crutchfield is an authorized retailer for all of their brands. If you are looking to DIY, it’s a great resource. If you’re looking to have it installed professionally, ask around/google reviews etc.

Price wise, Crutchfield should have the same prices on similar products, although they do seem to “discount” some of the misc parts when you package.

They're great but I tend to just use them as a reference guide. I'm installing it myself due to doing dozens in the past and lack of trust/being a perfectionist, but for the 22 Tacoma I've had no luck in finding the wiring diagram for the audio (I know the usual color scheme but would prefer a wiring schematic.)

Sorry to hijack your thread @hammertime4005, the rule of thumb for 3rd gens is keeping it NonJBL-to-NonJBL and JBL-to-JBL factory units across the entire range, the only thing etune2.0 3rd gens would need to buy if buying a Etune 3.0 factory HU would be this harness if i recall correctly :
