Hi all! I am looking to buy a 2001 Tacoma 2.7l
Truck has 140k miles. Spent most its life in Utah. Beautiful truck all around, except the frame has seen better days. Apparently this frame fell just out of warranty coverage so it’s never been replaced. I’m looking for some opinions to see if this would be worth the buy or if it’s just going to cause me trouble. I’d be willing to put in the work to reinforce and treat it.
    I’ll attach some photos. Thanks!
Owner is going to take a hammer to it and let me know how it is.

Yikes. I would pass on that one. Looks far beyond surface rust on the frame and rust is starting on the body panels. If you don’t already see it in the bed or under the fender arches it’s only a matter of time IMO

Not worth it. I took a chance on a rusty truck, mechanically it worked great but eventually I started to loose parts of the truck when I hit a speed bump. All in all if you are asking the question its because your gut is telling you not too. Keep looking, good luck.

It's usually because. One guys knows better, and the other guy doesn't.
    OP is the "other" guy.

To be fair, I replied based on the first 7 words in the post...I literally didn't read anything else.

    Why?

Because who would intentionally buy that truck when so many examples exist with absolutely zero rust.

I don't know, I see it all the time.
People will buy any POS if it's cheap enough.
But then they find out, It wasn't so cheap.

Or is that only a Tennessee thing?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Looks good to me for the right price I would buy it.

I see nothing that would have cause it to fail the test at the dealer

After a up close personal inspection and road test

Much better then many I have fixed

Could be my old monitor is not sharp enough to see what you others can see.

I'll rephrase; there are plenty of fools that have been parted from their money because they "didn't notice the rust".

Sorry but you're the idiot for buying without any due dilligence.

But knowing said vehicle has severe rust and asking if they should buy it or not?

Anyone that has the capacity to swap the body onto a clean frame wouldn't even be asking about said purchase.

My post may sound "mean" but if anything, it's to deter the OP from tossing their hard earned cash.

You cannot "coat it" and expect it to last. There is so much wrong with that vehicle.

    I'm with you.
I'm just glad OP asked first.

Because buying that truck would be a mistake.

OP certainly shouldn’t buy this truck but getting the Tacoma you want that has zero rust isn’t exactly like a snap of the fingers. Trust me I spent months trying to find a nice manual transmission Tacoma and it ain’t easy unless you have bring a trailer money.

It was already cleaned out with the hood stuff spoken for, and we are currently just over 30 minutes from home...
