Dale that procedure, orehiectomy, is what my dad had done. He had a descent remaining time till his heart started to fail faster his final 2 years. But he was a 6 pack a day smoker before he quit. That damage became the deciding factor. Good luck.

Thanks folks, my current plan is to get my right knee replaced; I was running our local trails upwards of 150 miles per month until 18 months ago when an old knee injury from high school finally caught up with me. The knee doctors are telling me I can't run with a replacement knee (even though I know plenty of runners who do) because it will wear the liner out too soon. "How soon?" Like eight to ten years. Hell, I'm good with that, my goal would be to wear it out two or even three times before I go Tango Uniform.

On the flip side, both my urologist and oncologist tell me running will be hugely beneficial when it comes to counteracting the effects of no testosterone in my body (which include osteoporosis and cardio-vascular decline); so yeah, they're encouraging me to get the knee done and get back out on the trails.

 

sixtys/wannabes/toolistas. I didn't realize my post would set off such a response! I wrenched professionally for 6-7 years out of Craftsman toolboxes, all of which I still have. The dealership I worked in had glass doors on all of the garage bays so any yahoo could just drive by and look in and see all those tools just sitting there. I couldn't do a lot about that but I did bolt all of those boxes together so if they came for mine it would be "all or nothing."

I always kept my tools very well organized. Wrenches lined up in little racks, sockets on bars, that kind of thing. When I finished a job I would clean the tools (just got the big goo off), put them away, and THEN I would drive the car out of my bay; that way I knew nothing was left behind. I was too poor to be replacing wrenches.

I agree with the Harbor Freight commentary; I used an engine stand and cherry picker from them last year to work on the Caterham. I know they have a bad rep but the stuff I used was just fine for 'hobbyist' type of use. I looked at their toolboxes but they don't have the size I want. Otherwise I'd get one.

Well dang. Maybe take up cycling? Less impact. As for the lost bits, let's be honest, mostly what they did was get us into trouble...

Sorry to hear that Dale. Hang tough keep a positive attitude, I know it ain’t easy. The word I always hoped to never hear was the C word (cancer). I got my diagnosis 2 1/2 years of prostate cancer. I was fortunate though, caught it early stage IIa. Treated with brachytherapy (radioactive seed implantation). My psa for the last year and a half has been below .09, I am considered cured. Even so hearing your doctor tell you that you have any kind of cancer is devastating. So I tell everyone with the C word, live for today, plan for tomorrow just go out and do it. God bless.

 

Evening everyone

Just got back home from my Neurologist appt at the VA . This Neurologist is specialized in neuromuscular disorders . After the doctor examined me he told me my lower legs are getting substantially weaker from Neuropathy and mentioned I might need a cane to help get around easier very soon

Monday of next week I will have another Neurologist appointment at the VA . This will be for my Neuro movement specialist and this doctor specializes in Parkinson’s disease

 

From several sources, I'm being told what I need is a weight bearing exercise, preferably one with impact; it is the stressing of the femur which generates the necessary hormones needed to counteract osteoporosis, and unfortunately cycling doesn't qualify. Doubly so as I have three pretty nice bikes and have cycled somewhere north of 40,000 miles in my life.

 

Yeah, even though I'm a "Glass is half-full" kind of guy, the "C" word hit me pretty hard. With that said, I plan on seeing the north side of 90 before I croak, and even then I'll be fighting like hell for more time.

I don't chime in here often, but...

Went down to the local Social Security office this morning. Wait 20 minutes to talk to someone, he tells me they don't do face to face interviews any longer, but confirmed my info and took my phone #, said someone would call me back within the hour.

About 15 minutes later, I get the call. Another 15 minutes, it's confirmed how much I'll be getting and the first check will be in Feb. Boo Ya MFers!

I will be telling the boss tomorrow that my last day will be 2/22. Twenty working days left! Initially, I had told the boss that the plan was to pull the plug 4/1, but since mid-Nov., I've had to call in twice due to back spasms keeping me up most of the night. Getting through the days is getting harder and harder. It's time to get out of the truck and spend my days rehabbing my back.

 

Couldn't like ONE, so decided to like TWO. Two replacement knees prevent me from skiing, and other similar activities. But, I never did them anyway! Love to get the wife out for some golf, probably going to have to try some pickelball with her for that to happen. Get those knees working for you again, and then go get 'em.

 

The SS can be eye opening, and nice. You will be surprised about how much better you can feel without the constant stupidity of sitting then climbing in and out of the truck. Also if you had to handle freight will make the difference.

 

We run liftgates. 'Opening' and 'closing' the liftgate has been more of a problem lately than humping freight around. Luckily, most of the places I pickup/deliver have docks and forklifts, so they can handle the heavy and oversized crap. Unloading loose tires doesn't do my back any favors, my route has 2 places that get loose tires. And, there's one place that company policy is that their employees don't open/close roll doors, which means climbing into your trailer to close your door (drivers not allowed on the dock). Snowy/icy conditions really increase the chance of falling out of the trailer. I don't need that shyte.

 

Trust me Rich I know the mid summer before I retired I guy was handing me material up to me and somehow didn't let go or I over balanced and landed dumb on my arm stretched out 3.5 feet down tearing my right rotator cuff. A year later I had a ladder collapse and tore the left one so I've had both done in 2 .5 years. Tires suck for the most part, most new cars and trucks are taking wider and heavier tires then before.

Good morning. A warming trend today and the rest of the wee. Taking the guitar of my youth to a luthier today to have new peg tuners installed. I am tired of adjusting the strings two or 3 times during a practice session. I like the guitar because it is a smaller body and easier on my right shoulder when I practice. The guitar is an old Epiphone FT30 from my teen years. I am also going to ask him about electrifying the guitar when I am there today to see if I can afford to have both done.
