Hey y’all, first time here but couldn’t find the answer to this question in previous threads.

The dealership seemed pretty disinterested in helping me navigate the panel of switches/blank covers on the left of the steering wheel of my 2014 Tacoma. I bought it used, so I’m unsure of the actual style nomenclature, but it appears to be a base model 4x4 that came prewired for ad ons like the fog lights and backup camera, but didn’t have these features installed.

I put in a backup camera which worked with simple plug and play and was doing the same with some aftermarket fog lights which leads me to my question.

I installed the lights themselves using the unused connections behind the bumper and ordered a couple aftermarket switches with the intention of popping out the top left blank/cover and mating the switch with the connection I located behind it (all pictures I’ve seen of models that came with fog lights installed seem to use this location for the switch.

when I removed the cover however, the unused connector is incompatible with the switch leading me to believe it is for a different system entirely. I removed all of the other blanks—including the smaller centrally located ones under the head unit—and still couldn’t find a compatible connector.

As far as I can tell, this connector—for a 2014 at least—should have one shape and one shape only. So my first question is, am I wrong about that?

The second question, assuming I’m right, is what the connectors I DO have behind those blanks actually control?

And my final question—assuming the top left connector doesn’t go to the prewired fog lights, and the truck was prewired only insofar as it has wiring behind the bumper that dead-ends in some unknown location, is what is a good next step to complete the connection between the switch I bought and the wiring behind the bumper?

I’ve attached relevant pictures including one of the connectors I have but have no idea what they control if anyone can enlighten me about that.

The aftermarket switches from places like CH4x4 while they fit perfectly in the slots will not plug into the factory wiring, you would need an OEM switch to do that.

In addition to the switch you would need to install the FR FOG Relay and FR FOG Fuse (15A) in the designated slots in the underhood fuse box.

Aftermarket switches tend to not work very well because most are designed to switch the positive side, Toyota switches the negative side so it probably won't be possible to use the indicator light on the switch although you could still hook it up to the dimmer circuit so it would light at night.
Your switch should have came with a pinout of the connections but you won't wire it like they say if your using the factory fog light wiring.

    Stock Fog Light switch wires:

    White/Black: Ground
    Blue: Fog Lamp Relay Control
    Green: Illumination -
    Green/White: Illumination +

Do not tie the illumination (Green & Green/White) wires to anything other than the backlight for the switch or you risk frying the Rheostat.

This is what a Manual 2014 TRD OffRoad would have, auto would have a Downhill Assist Control button where the Clutch Start Cancel would be.
