2022 TRDOR with 17,000 miles on it and both of my keys already do not work well at all. When I hit lock and unlock the truck only reacts to it about half of the time (it is borderline impossible to get the three presses for remote start to work in a row). Same thing with keyless entry. I've tried both fobs, I've tried new batteries and it is exactly the same. Do these fobs do the same for anybody else? Dealership found no issue.

I have 51K miles on my 2021 SR5 and no issues with the key fobs. Maybe you got bad ones.

I find mine works best if I can see the truck and it's within 100 ft. or so. Long distances and obstacles like buildings make it a very short distance thing. "New batteries" work best if bought from a place that sells a lot like Walmart so you're getting fairly "new". They do kinda "suck" as far as distance compared to other manufacturers I've had.

Have you tried using steel wool on the metal contacts where the coin battery sits? When my Fobs act flakey, cleaning the contacts and dropping in a new battery helps.

It's strange because the distance doesn't make a difference to me. It's just as shit 1 foot away as it is 20 feet away

Since it is consistent between both keys I wonder if the issue lies with the receiver inside the truck. Would be a weird part to have go bad on you though

Mine sucks too, even with new batteries it usually doesn't work past 50 feet.

You could try unhooking the Negative battery cable for 30 seconds to see if it resets the Fob receiver in the cab. You might lose MPG data and some other settings.

Take it to a dealer have them check how yours is operating next to the others in for service. When I was in for my service a third of the cars were tacomas. They should be able to determine if they need to be replaced under the warranty using that method.

Been using same key I’ve had since the beginning of times. Still on OG battery, everything works great.

Mine doesnt work very far away. I try to start it the morning to warm it up and at 30 feet away through a window I gotta rapid fire the lock button donkey kong style to get it to work.

Also gotta replace the batteries like every 6 months. Thats similar results on the 1 factory fob I have and 2 aftermarket ones.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
'22 with 26k miles and I think my key's battery is dying. It's the regular physical key, not the smart key fob.

Sometimes it'll initially not work until I kept on pressing/holding the button then it works.

Yeah mine does the same, I have a MT so no remote start though. I feel like the key fob goes to "sleep" and the first press turns it on if that makes sense. Or maybe the sensor in the truck turns off after awhile. Just theories.

My old remotes for other vehicles worked instantly for any press but sometimes the first press on the Taco key doesn't do anything.

OP, my key fob sucks like yours, and it sucked from day 1. Sometimes it works okay, other times i feel like the battery is on its last leg. Distance be damned. But compared to key fobs from other manufactures that I’ve had, it leaves much to be desired.
