Why why why why.... he said he cut the headers to make it easier to remove the engine from his 4runner...... paid 100$ for it going to try to make a turbo manifold out of what's left....

The reason it was done was because of time.
I'd suspect laziness played a big part in it too.

Now, tell me about this turbo build. I need to know more. :D

    Agreed ^^^^

I saw a Roadkill episode while back
    They bought cheap eBay header
Not to mount, but to cut apart and fab turbo piping
Worth more for fab parts/bends than the actual crappy header
I would of never thought of doing that

OP. What’s the backstory? How did you get involved? What is the plan going forward?

Ever been to a you-pull junkyard? Folks will cut anything to make pulling a part faster. I regularly see perfectly good drive shafts cut rather than removing four bolts, tie rods cut rather than popping a ball joint, and entire front ends cut off rather than dealing with motor mounts. I've even seen shocks cut in half to get a rear axle off.

I'd guess that whoever did that didn't know they were "nice" headers.

found it on facebook marketplace. i got the entire thing for 100$ with a 4runner harness. The guy bought a 4runner previous owner had started to do a waterpump/timing belt and valve cover gaskets. got in over there head and sold to this guy. He i would assume did not want to deal with trying to figure out where all the bolts and what not were to finish the job so he threw in a junkyard motor and called it good. He said he cut them to make it easier to pull the engine..... plan going forward is i bought an 03 prerunner from a buddy for 800 with 2 engines that need rebuilt. so im going to hopefully refresh this engine assuming it compression tests fine. Slowly rebuild another 5vzfe. I would like to slowly work my way into a turbo setup. honestly im not sure what to do with the prerunner once done id like to keep it however i would like something i can lower as i have an 02 4wd so no real need for a prerunner. but everything is still up in the air at this point lol

When working wreckers you dont mess around. If a bolt starts to round, you cut it and move on.

I once pulled and engine out of a chevy express van and we basically unbolted the mounts/bell housing, then starting pulling on it while cutting EVERYTHING.
