Have a friend/customer who runs a big indoor dog training facility and rents equipment to the various groups who use the space. She asked my to build some simple/utilitarian storage boxes for those long/collapsible agility dog tunnels. Those things are pretty expensive and were getting beat up just lying on the floor.

Made some 32"W x 32"D x 24"H boxes with 3/4" BC Plywood. Used my new track saw to rip down the Plywood, so slick. Nothing fancy, just butt joints, glue & screws. Was able to make 1 box per sheet. To keep weight down, I didn't add a back. Used some simple corner braces to nearly eliminate any racking. Bigger braces on the back and smaller ones on the front top only so things can slide in easily. Delivered two yesterday and just wrapped up two more today. 4 more to go, hopefully next week. Made them to store the largest tunnels. 2 of the smaller ones will also fit. They'll be stacked 2 or 3 high.

 

Went to do a relatively simple job today. Customer has an in-law suite and wanted to remove one 24" base cabinet to install a dishwasher. Just a short 8' run. Countertop was generic laminate and needed to raise it just a wee bit. Screws were in all the expected places and it wouldn't move upon removing them. Upon further inspection, whoever installed it decided to run a thick bead of construction adhesive on the top edge (front, back and sides) of every base cabinet.



Time for plan B.

That's what I'm thinking. I didn't have either saw with me at the time. There's some tight areas (like around the sink) I may not be able to reach with either.

 

Liquid nails is incredible stuff. All kinds of uses.

 

Hmmmm. I've never seen it used. Granted I'm not a full time kitchen guy. I've seen silicone used many times and that seems to hold very well. I've mostly seen just the screws with laminate.

As appealing and satisfying that seems, I think it would destroy the particle board based laminate.

Glad to find this thread. Rebuilding a DW mobile home that was abandoned and rotted out.
About 80% done and going on 2 years. Hung some plywood cabinets last night.



The other side of that galley is this. I had a friend install these on Sunday. I assembled them but he has experience in doing this kinda stuff.

Save the BFH for later. They do come in handy but not in this case. Like @Andy01DblCabTacoma said, use a Fein tool. If the cabinet is gonna be scrapped cut an inch or so under the countertop through the back, front and side of your cabinet. Then wiggle it out. Then use the same tool to get the rest of it detached from the counter top. If you wanna save it then just go to step 2 but as you cut spray the cut line every few inches with acetone. If you don't the glue will get hot then instantly rebond to itself. You could also try a sharp 1" chisel but Fein tools are more fun in tight spots. lol

 

That's probably the route I'll have to take. They wanted this to be quick and easy. Ha!!

Everything will be saved and reused. There's one area that will be a challenge. The metal corner brackets (4) in each cabinet where the screws went through up into the countertop. I can't see how to remove them. No visible fasteners. I think they may have just been punched into the top of the cabinet with locking spikes. I'll have to look for longer blades for my multi-tool.
