MTs make up less than 5% of sales so they're hard to find in the first place. They usually go quickly when they are available. You may have slightly more luck getting one in a 3rd gen when the 2024s finally start shipping.

They were 1.4% of sales last year. Just 3,287 manual Tacomas left dealer lots in 2023.

I am on the Corvette C8 forums. Everyone on there who shipped a new C8 to CA had to deal with the smog and registration. The smog being the most painful aspect of the process. My friend ordered a C8 from MacMulkin and had to handle the registration and smog. He had to visit his smog guy a few times, because the car was so new, it wouldn't take a reading. So he had to put a few extra hundred miles on it to finally pass.

Not sure if this applies to OP's scenario, if it is slightly used. But for a brand new car coming into California, it needs to pass CA smog.

I have a 22 OR MT. I bought mine new. I got really lucky. Walked in the dealership said what I wanted he looked on the computer said they were building one at the factory, no vin yet if I remember right, placed a deposit and picked up 3 months later. I was even lucky to get the color I wanted gray. I paid MSRP I believe was 42 + I had the factory lift installed as well so.

Ask what fees are included other than sale price and taxes. Do NOT pay over MSRP for the purchase price!

Adam is a solid guy, I didn’t buy there but I looked at a few trucks there, it’s kind of local for me. I’m between the Kokomo and Warsaw dealers. The parts dept is why I’m there the most. Daughter lives there so I’m in Kokomo often.

    Congrats on your new OR

    Hey, all!!!
So I haven’t been able to find a new 23 TRD OR MT 4x4 anywhere. However, I did find some Sport versions and I’m getting tempted. What’s the real difference between the OR and Sport? All my research found was that the OR has skid plates and the Sport doesn’t. Is this accurate? Thanks in advance!!!

My Sport came with a skid plate. Here is a link comparing the Sport and Off Road.

I waited about a year before finding my MT. Although I was casually looking, I knew I only wanted the MT. Finally 2 popped up about 1.5 hrs from me, I got off night shift and drove straight to the dealer and waited for them to open, and drove one of them home that day.

If you do find one you should take action. Just don't get so focused that you get taken advantage of. I spent almost 7 hrs going back and forth before we finalized a deal.

Non exhaustive list, but the main differentiators for the Off Road are the larger rear differential with an integrated factory locker (8.75 inch vs 8 inch), the electric brake booster (vs vacuum), 16 inch wheels (vs 17 inch) and the shock package. None of those things really matter if you aren't offroading it.

So I chatted with one of the salesmen at Toyota of Bristol, TN and he mentioned that there was a computer glitch with all of the Tacomas listed on AutoTrader.com. They’re all previously sold Tacomas and for some reason, AutoTrader is listing old trucks. I followed up on the Sport you linked and I’ll call them tomorrow to see if that is a glitch or on the lot. Thanks a ton!!!!!!!

Stay with it! You only need to find ONE manual gearbox!

    Fingers crossed!
