Thanks much OP, took me all of 20 minutes (cutting initial one out) my 2018 just hit 100k. Used same continental belt as well. $37

Replaced mine last week, using the Continental belt as well. After an hour of fidling with excess belt, and lots of bruises, got er done. Getting 5mm Allen key into the slot, and removing the skid plate off, was a game changer.

Thank you OP and everyone else who has replied to this thread. I read every post and knew it would be a challenge to replace given the tight work area. Took me around 1.5 hours and replaced it with an OEM belt (part# 90916-A2037). My truck is 2016 and has 92,000 miles, the original belt was replaced under warranty at 10,000 miles and still looked good so I kept it as an emergency backup.

I struggled getting the tensioner over enough to get the allen wrench into the keyhole. I managed to put a 1/2" pvc pipe on the end of my ratchet which gave the leverage I needed to finally get the allen wrench in. Keeping the tensioner in place makes routing the belt easier.

I also removed my skid plate which helped verifying the belt was routed correctly.

One thing I did initially was route the belt over "Idler No. 2" between the Water Pump & Generator instead of under it. I caught my mistake and had to restart again. Seems like it could be an easy mistake to make so double and triple check your work.

    Cheers!

    Good work.

The diagram shows two "Idler No. 2" locations. The belt goes under the top one and over the bottom one. Kinda confusing, but that's the diagram I used too.

FWIW I didn't take the skid plate off, just used the brail method. ;)

Stock to the bone. Dealership did the leveling kit with 32's. I fabricated the tonue cover.
This is a very good write-up, thx for posting it. This helped me change the belt and both pullies, which started to squeak, on my '17 Tacoma, which was the original belt. Yep I'm gonna get flack for this, however most of my miles are highway traveling. Currently I have 333,250 on the truck. Thx for the knowledge!!

Wow, 333K? 4 banger or 3.5 V6? That's a lot of highway miles. Any other issues?

I have the 3.5L V6. Only 3 major issues, drivers side wheel bearing went out then later on the driveline went out of balance for some unknown reason. The first owner (0 to 5,200 miles) overloaded the leafsprings and broke one but it didn't show up till 260K

What’s the normal interval for the belt?
My 17’ is only at 60k.

I changed mine as soon as it started squealing on start up. I think that was close to 80 for me.

Cool, I’ll keep an eye on it and come back to this thread when the time comes.

I just replaced my belt at 87K. I didn’t use Allen. Used 14mm socket wrench to release tension. Fished old belt out around fan and fished new in around fan and everything. Left top right pulley off until I compressed tensioner as last step and belt slid right into place. This worked great for me. Suggest you thread bottom left first and then finish with the top right portion. Easy, about 30 minutes because I moved like a snail and drank a beer. I bought Continental 4070834/7PK2120 as OEM replacement. All good.

I had mine changed around 60k and it just started squeaking again on startup at 110k. This time I’ll change it myself.

I noticed the Bando belt ribs were much shallower compared to the OEM belt. Continental makes really good products.

Just changed mine out tonight in about 20 minutes and wasn't as bad as I thought. Belt had about 90k on it. Keeping the old belt as a back up.

Mine was squealing like crazy with the 60+ deg weather yesterday. I sprayed it with glass cleaner and it shut up so I decided to start with just the belt. Grabbed a conti and threw it on before I punched in this morning, and had a quiet drive home. The old one looked OK overall, kinda dry on the smooth side but no markings so I'm not sure if it was oem. If it was, it had 54k on it.

Why are there 2 "idler no. 2" on that diagram?

Thanks 06Ltd! My 2018 SR5 suddenly began squeaking. I saw many a few videos on YT but none explained like your post. Some didn't even use an allen or anything to hold the tensioner. Genuine Toyota V-Ribbed Belt P/N 90916-A2037. I bought the serpentine belt at my Toyota Dealer https://autoparts.lhmtoyotalemongrove.com/ I ordered online in the morning and picked it up at noon. I saved $23.96 by ordering online. If i walk in. it costs $77.65

Looks like my belt is probably due for a replacement again at 80k miles. Replaced it at around 35k miles with OEM.

I heard it squealing a bit today on my drive to lunch. Sad.

Or maybe it's a pulley this time. I'll have to look deeper this weekend.

Thanks OP. Had my 2019 do this at around 40000 as well. Surprised it happened this early
