There's a guy on the F150 Forum that was able to repeatably drop the IAT by 5° by removing the cover on his truck

I wonder what the hood is going to look like after running without it?
Nice discolored circle right in the middle.

Oddly some are actually designed for pedestrian safety.

The foam covers on current FWD based Toyotas is designed to assist the hood with pedestrian absorption.

The throttle body dirt is normal on a PCV engine lol, run a catch can if you dont want that.

Tacoma 4.0 definitely doesnt trap heat, its massive air filter housing and intake would be more of the cause for that.

And the result would be what?

Every Toyota I have owned got better mpg with higher intake air temps.

The water temps in all my Toyotas always ran around 195 summer or winter during normal drives.

I've been using a scan gauge 2 for as long as I can remember. I know what the engine is doing at all times.

It was an ecoboost engine. The lower IATs helped it run cooler thus it wouldn't reduce power on hot days

Interesting. I'm surprised 5* would make that much of a difference.

It helped a little. It wasn't limp mode but was noticeable when towing on hot days.

He also found you can reduce IATs by another 5° by wrapping the Cold Air Charge (CAC) pipe in insulating material.

Also the F150s have a felt piece on the underside of the cover in addition to the plastic beauty cover!

I removed the felt as a compromise between completely removing the cover

I've removed the cover in all my vehicles. If anything it makes the space underneath less inviting to mice.
