Crazy! Was parked not even two seconds and a huge ice/snow chunker fell on my taco! Totaled my hood. Someone point me in the right direction to buy a new one. I’m so sad. No one hurt but sure scared the crap out of me.

Cut a big hole in it and put a giant scoop? There’s also People doing hood swaps on TW. Glad you are safe!

I would think the building owner might be liable for this as well. I wouldn’t feel bad about suing or asking them for reimbursement from their property insurance company because it could’ve been a person and I’m sure they wouldn’t want an increase in their premium for it due to their negligence and not clearing or flagging off a hazard area next to their building. And if they say the parking lot signs say not liable for property damage, then file in small claims.

Bro, perfect time for a Sport hood swap. take it to the dealer and get a quote, then take it to a independent shop to have a new hood installed. sorry about the Taco tho.

this too. did you call the police for a report. Definitely a property owner liability, take repair quotes to small claims court if they balk.

Here is a link if you want an OEM hood and install it yourself. Comes painted but you can get a hood cheaper if you plan to have it painted locally.

Well, realistically, you should put your feelings aside. Imagine next time that happens there's a kid standing where your truck was parked. You bringing attention and holding them accountable for maintaining an unsafe situation could literally save someone life. J/S
Aren't there supposed to be stops mounted, so that doesn't happen.

They got insurance for that kind of stuff. Plus if this had hit a person and messed them up or worse you can bet that person would sue for damages.

Did you talk to them - or did you drive away?

acts of god - like excessive snow in Colorado mtns - are not the same as total negligence. My opinion.

Likely the building owners fault, either way better the hood then the roof. Hoods are easily replaced. Insurance will take care of it either the building owner or yours.

Yes go for the hotel to pay for damages. They also have insurance for these types of things. Don’t feel bad it’s a legal claim, your not gaming the system. Sorry about the truck. Good luck

I would think the hotel is liable here. They have insurance to cover these things. We are talking thousands of dollars to repair your truck. Put your feelings aside and let them pay for it.

So lucky it was just the hood. Good luck on the replacement, seems like an easy fix; replace the hood.

This is exactly why they have insurance. Its their responsibility to maintain their property.

If the snow fell on you and you broke your neck, you would pay out of pocket?

Update: Not sure hotel will pay. Difference is 'it fell naturally' vs. 'it fell because maintenance was on the roof'

Gravity is pretty maintenance free. If it can even remotely happen then any legit establishment would accept responsibility & not split hairs. Just my $0.02.

    definitely talk to the hotel.

my fiance had something similar happen before i met her. she was parked outside a spa by her house on a windy day. i guess the wind was so strong, one of the hot tub covers flew off and fell on her a pillar. it was a lot of damage from what she told me. they tried to not pay for it, but ended up paying for the whole thing and the rental she needed while her car was being repaired for a number of months.

i think they tried to say it was an act of god, but i can't be sure.
