Hey everyone! I just purchased this 1995 base model single cab from my coworker. It has no major modifications and over 300,000 miles! I have already done my first fix on it which was replacing the shifter bushings and greasing everything up in there. Shifts like butter now.

I also replaced the passenger seat belt receptacle that was broken (OEM from Toyota still had the part surprisingly.)

Some of the things I want to do in order more or less:
    • Lower ball joints (OEM preferred from what I've read)
    • Fix odometer. He hit 300,000 miles recently before selling it to me and the analog odometer got stuck rolling over to 300,000. The speedometer works so I want to take the cluster apart and see if there is a broken gear or something that needs replaced.
    • Check/replace some of the suspension components if needed. Honestly it looks good but I want to get under the vehicle soon and look at everything closely.
    • Bigger tires. This is a 5 lug with 14" black painted steel rims. I think bigger tires will fit without rubbing and give a little bit of lift to this short truck.
    • Re-do the tailgate "TOYOTA" decal
    • Swap the bench seat out for two nice quality bucket seats.
    • Possible small lift. This is on the back burner but if the tires don't give it a decent look I may want to add a leaf in the back and some kind of 2-3 inch lift up front. I have never owned a truck so I'm new to all that, and also it's not super important to me right now.
    • The paint looks bad and there are some small dents all around. Depending on how everything goes with the truck it would be nice to repaint it
Thanks for stopping by and reading my post! I love this little thing and it's a great 2nd vehicle. I'll post some pics

Welcome. Nice ideas but don't bite off too much. I got a similar truck and enjoy it for what it is. How big a job was the shifter bushings? Mines not the smoothest.

@03base It was pretty easy. Once I got the shifter boots/carpet out of the way I used an open ended 19 mm wrench to push down the metal retainer and turn. My bushing was so disintegrated in there that it made it hard to turn by hand but the wrench trick made it easy. You might not have to do this but I removed the whole shift plate to clean disintegrated bushing out. Then installed the new bushings and greased everything up/reinstalled. 45 minutes including cleaning. Parts are cheap too.
