To me fog lights are just that. They have a specific light pattern so the driver can see (not to BE SEEN) during fog, snow or rain. They're not meant to be a light that aids in straight forward vision in good conditions. If you want to see better on the sides or ditch get ditch lights. If you want to see better forward get better headlights or DRIVING LIGHTS. Gee it's not rocket surgery.

I don’t see why they can’t be used to aide vision. If you used your fogs as designed you’d get what, one or 2 solid uses out of them per year? Why not modify them so the light output helps light the road for you.

Mine work fine. A lot better than earlier versions of some vehicles. Typical commuting has my eyes further down the road and in my mirrors and the low beams work fine. The fog lights do illuminate right in front and off to the sides so for pedestrians, curbs, tunnel walls/jersey barriers to branches laying there from storm damage they work great. Theyre meant to compliment the headlights for sketchy situations. Running them hauling ass down the highway they’re really not needed except in traffic and they will illuminate part of the vehicle next to you. But you should already know that vehicle is there by paying attention. Of course not everyone is paying attention these days and accidents are more frequent. So having a better awareness around you by using your mirrors to monitor vehicles behind you will a as important as the ones in front or off to the side. Up your awareness on the road and the fog lights are just a luxury. Yea they look cool and people see you coming better I guess (I’ve never actually asked them) but where they shine is on back roads and tight streets

It is illegal to drive US roads with ditch lights on. At night I often drive back roads with my fogs and headlight on because fogs illuminate the sides of the road more than the headlights and I can see deer earlier. Even with my truck lifted I've never been flashed by an oncoming diver. Mine are aimed properly and SAE complaint (DD SS3 Max).

Fog lights just need the parking lights and not low beams to be on

Gee, what's not rocket surgery is your rant has nothing to do with what I asked. Do you pay for my truck? Do you pay my insurance? Do you drive my truck for me? How I drive MY truck is MY business, not yours. I had a simple question about the quality of the fog lights that are obviously sub par. I don't need to be lectured on what fog lights are meant to do or how YOU use them. What I do with my vehicle is my business.

black doesn't reflect light, would be very ineffective

They come dark. No painting. Just added a pic of black OEM fog to my original post.

The Morimoto fogs are also black (see pic below):

The OEM LED foglights utilize projectors/lenses to aim the light. They are not reflector type housings like the headlights. The silver/chrome parts of the housing that are replaced with black bezels have no impact on the light output. I have run both the silver/chrome and black housing OEM LED fog lights, and cannot tell any difference in light output.

They aren't as bright as some of the aftermarket options, and the beam isn't as tall as other options, but the OEM LED fogs spread the light very evenly and wide to the sides of the truck. I think they're a great bang for buck.
