Download this, watch some Youtube videos on how to use it. It's pretty simple, biggest thing to know is you have to pull it down from the radio before you make changes, and then can upload it back on.

    My channel setup:

    1-22 GMRS/FRS Frequences
    61-68 WX frequencies
    101-105 MURS frequencies

These are presets within the CHIRP program, you open the menus and add in pre-set frequency blocks into selected channel ranges. MURS used to use other designation, green circle, blue dot, etc etc, so you might see those in there. 23+ is for repeater use, you probably won't need those, you can just kill those off the uplink so they don't clog up your radio.

(I have some local ham freqs/repeaters in the 50s too, I have my ham license).

Now, if you find your radio cannot (by software block) TX on those channels, it's because it's illegal. You can only use a GMRS certified radio on those channels. Think of it like using an F1 car in a NASCAR race, it can technically play on the track, but it's not allowed. So to transmit in the GMRS/FRS frequencies, and MURS frequencies, you have to have a radio that's allowed to do that.

IF, and only IF, I was a nefarious type, I would explain that it's super easy to do a button combination on the radio to do a factory reset to allow you to set it to be able to TX on the GMRS and MURS frequencies. In theory, you would only have to do it ONCE, not every time you start the radio. But that would be HIGHLY irresponsible of me to explain to you how to do that, OR send you a link with the instructions....

    https://fieldradio.org/unlock-baofeng-uv-5r-frequencies/

I would NEVER recommend looking at that page.

PS the orange button on the front, VFO/MR, MR is memory, goes by saved channels. VFO is so you can punch in frequencies. If you find yourself unable to go to channels and have to punch in frequencies instead, that's a common occurrence, just hit the button and you're good to go.

There's a lot more in CHIRP as well, you can program roger beeps, dual monitor, etc etc. I have mine programmed to display my call signs (amateur and GMRS) when I turn it on :)

    You licensed?
Pretty common cable. The Chinese don't care what you put in it but the FCC does, and they have zero sense of humor.
