Well my son finally bit the bullet and purchased his first new vehicle. He's always driven older stuff picked up cheap or family cast offs. The Matrix finally bit the big one on Monday. Driving in town, he noticed the battery light was on (how long, who knows). Well the dash lights started flashing and he pulled into a parking lot where it died. Then I get the phone call. I take the battery out of my wife's Corolla to make the rescue, then back to our house (he lives in a town about 30 minutes away). Once home, we determine the alternator is done. Add that to the fact the car needs rear brakes (calipers and all) needs major exhaust work and has basically had the living crap beaten out of it, it was decided that it had reached the end of it's useful life. RIP Matrix.
Anyway, about this time, I'm already on the phone to my friend who has a Toyota dealership (convenient). Strangely, I was just shooting the breeze with him on Saturday night and had asked him if he had any Tacoma's left to which he replied, "just the one" (there are virtually no '23s left in this area and about 300 in all of Canada and he's not sure when he's going to get the '24s). Short conversation - "Do you still have that white Tacoma? Yup, right in front of me. Don't sell it we're on our way".
To shorten the long thread, He picks up his new 2023 TRD Sport LB double cab auto tomorrow. White with black out badging and a tonneau. Nice looking truck. He's a little nervous since it's a big expenditure but excited at the same time. He's already picked up Husky liners for it.
As a Gen 2 guy I guess I'll just have to accept there's now a Gen 3 in the family. All good (and now he won't be borrowing my truck all the time).

    Cheers
