I finally have heard back from their insurance and am getting reimbursed on the estimate i provided. I was wondering if i can get some advice on if I should completely fix the bumper through a body shop or pick up an aftermarket bumper because i have the chance. There is a part that is slightly dented with the paint chipped and was wondering if i’d be able to run an aftermarket bumper. Any advice/opinions would be appreciated!

I had to replace the center plastic position of my bumper. Post #22 has a good write up and post #5 has an exploded view of parts if you are thinking of doing the repair yourself.

I picked up the Saints Off-road rear bumper and love it! Nothing like solid steel.

I’d play it safe and go through an auto collision shop, incase it needs more work/$. It’s common for insurance to cover partial, knowing an owner will take the check or they’ll have to pay out more for a completed job.

I’m going SSO rear shortly, in black powder.

Do you think that part that is slightly dented will allow an aftermarket bumper to fit?

Did you have other damage besides the bumper cap?

Just beware that most aftermarket rear bumpers, do not have the provision to retain your blind spot monitor.

That’s true, i’ve been driving without it using good ol SMOG. I’d like to keep the back up sensors though.

Your best bet is to get the bumper repaired, rather than replaced with a steel bumper.

I have the Body Armor 4x4 steel bumper that has spot for the BSM sensors, but they don't go through steel. So, it's kinda pointless.

    Yeah.
Some bumpers do allow you to move the parking sensors over, just validate with the manufacturer.

That minor damage shouldn't prevent an aftermarket bumper from fitting. With a little hammering and some big pliers it could be straightened out, but probably not necessary. Either way, it needs some paint on it to protect it from rusting.

I got freaking rear ended this morning and got on here to ask about a cheap replacement bumper lol. The cheapest one on tacoma beast is the body armor one but I don't like the big BA logo on the side.

It also was not a 1mph collision. Impossible to do that damage at 1mph.

Talk to others who have purchased a BSM compatible bumper; saw a thread last week that listed the only THREE compatible.
