LS6 Swap 2nd Gen Build + New Tundra

You did. They didn't show any areas of secure fastening like this.

 

I’m aware of that, just trying to keep heat out of my coolant lines.

 

Maybe a heat shield on the return line and/or just run the return furthest from the exhaust to limit heat soak from the exhaust.

Worst case is you're replacing that section of exhaust in 5-10 years.

 

Yeah, definitely going to be adding some heat shielding to keep things from heat soaking. I’m not worried about the exhaust oxidizing. I know it’ll happen at some point, but whatever. Not like it rains very often in phoenix anyways.

 

This may be not shown for fit up in the pics but i recommend adding a rubber or other non metallic sleeve between the aluminum coolant pipes and the steel mounts/clamps. This will keep galvanic corrosion from happening between the dissimilar metals and having pinhole coolant leaks happen down the road.

 

454 actually finished the coolant lines last night.

I’d rather my exhaust corrode and potentially leak than my coolant lines. They’re aluminum, not stainless like the exhaust but still. It’s okay.

 

Rappa is back.

2 new valve covers, valve cover gaskets, new vacuum pump, vacuum pump gaskets, spark plug tube seals, spark plugs, timing cover seal, 4 new phasers, new timing chains, new timing chain tensioners, new timing chain guides, new oil pan gasket, new oil pan. All the necessary one time use bolts and hoses were replaced too. This thing is dialed now!

454 killing it with the @Baja Designs S2 pockets in my Mazzula rear bumper. Meant to have him do this in January of last year when he threw the bumper on but I forgot to mention it

Does 454 do Tig? I've been wanting to modify my front aluminum bumper with full hoops and some flush mounted s2's for ditch/cornering lights. If so, one more reason for me to finally reach out to him/get the truck over to him for last little dial in details.

 

I think I see some tungsten sitting on the bench behind the bumper so looks like it. Shoot him an email or PM him!

 

Coolant pipes are pretty much wrapped up.

 

Are there going to be support brackets on the rad feeders. It looks like there's flex joints at the rad and the bulkheads in the bed. Once filled with coolant, that will be a lot of mass to vibrate around.

 

The rad isn’t going to move around. It has. Small thin rubber isolator but that’s about it. The whole system is relatively stiff. Flexible where it needs to be though. That run of tubing your referencing isn’t as long as it looks.

 

Shorty bumps for the front. One day I’ll cage the truck and do engine cage and then bump off the upper arm. But for now, with the lower arm bumps, moved to 1” so I’m not constantly riding on the bumps on the street.

 

Try making an aluminum radiant heat shield installed on the coolant pipes where near the exhaust. We use these a lot in aviation engines where the fuel lines run close to exhaust pipes. Very effective.
