    Good Friday morning friends :hattip:

Looked up which universal joint I needed on O’reilly’s website yesterday, it gives dimension so I crawled under my truck with calipers to verify the right one. Went in and the manger brought be a box with grease all over it and it had been opened. I should have refused it but I didn’t.

Got mine out and the one I picked up was the small one, I needed the big one. I’m guessing someone swapped it since it’s more expensive and returned it. Who knows.

Had to drive 30 minutes round trip to advance when I got home to get the correct one. Returned the other one this morning and told them what was up hoping they do something about it so someone else doesn’t get who-dooed.

    upload_2024-2-2_9-7-58.jpg

Found out why mine was vibrating and started making a noise. Not sure why they don’t put grease fittings on some of them.

Helped my dad with a many of them growing up with a vice and two sockets. Luckily I have a small press and some sockets. Got Cole to help and learn.

    No more vibration :bananadance:

It was like that when I took it out, I’m assuming it happened yesterday pulling that tractor back when it started making noise.

It had been vibrating but I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. The drivers side floor board was vibrating and I thought it was the left front wheel bearings. A new hub didn’t fix that but it’s got a new hub assembly on the drivers side :D

Now there is something you don't see very often, a Honda N600, the first car Honda marketed in the US from 1970-72.

    e37cdaaa41f856a1f128015536aabed4x.jpg

Photo bombing in the background is a 1961-62 Ford pickup...

In 1961 Ford got the brilliant idea to build what they called the “integrated pickup” body, which is commonly referred to as the "unibody", it really isn't as the truck still has a full ladder style frame.

Note the box sides and rear cab corner are a one piece stamping. This disaster was applied to the F-100 & F-250 2WD models.

    196643.jpg

Looks & sounds great doesn't it? This was not one of the well touted Ford "Better Ideas". In service the loaded trucks suffered buckled body panels, doors popping open - or not opening, etc. age (rust) made the issues all the worse.

    upload_2024-2-2_9-26-14.png

I bet the engineers told the stylists & production planners "We told you so!" over this hot mess.

For 1963 a hasty redesign of the cab was made and the 1960 box, which didn't match the cab profile at all as seen below, was used as the integrated body was phased out. 1964 had a proper profiled box.

    1963-ford-f-100.jpg

This confuses people today thinking "the box has been changed" -
    - nope Ford just :censored: up big time. :burp:

Years ago I bought an old full time 4x4 Wagoneer.
A Wagoneer has 7 u-joints and shifting from drive to reverse you could count 1 to 7.
Well, it is only about 30 miles home so off we went...:fingerscrossed:
With a completely bogus plate - times were simpler back then. :D

Things were going swimmingly -- motorin' along, singin' a song on a paved secondary road about 45 mph and suddenly ....

    360_F_199595672_Jz2yOZEzJ3SQcRxwhcpbfV4BCZovywU7.jpg

The rear of the wagon went up - up - up and then fell off to the drivers side - I made a sudden unplanned turn toward the ditch at 45 mph. :censored: !

Glancing out the passenger windows I see something hurling through the air at windshield level at my friend who was following me - he did a hasty maneuver that the legendary Bill Hickman himself would have been proud of and the flying object missed him by inches.

Fortunately the road was wide, flat and empty -- and the brakes on this heap worked.

I walked back to him and said "what the hell was that?", he said "that was your drive shaft".

The front u-joint on the rear shaft had broken and the shaft dug into the road, the rear joint didn't break, the shaft twisted off at the yoke , when we picked the shaft up the twisted end was smoking.

Locked the transfer case and drove home on the front axle without further incident.
    The good old days. :)

My buddy who owns this trailer and tractor just told me the tax value on this trailer is $729 and he’d take $650 for it. He bought it from my dad years ago.

I said take it to that consignment auction next month, I bet it’ll bring north of $1,200. He said you take it and I’ll give you 25% of the sale price.

I said done, I was going to take some stuff anyway.

Trailers are insanely expensive here.
Junk on wheels with a title is $1000.

The paperwork difficulty to get a title for a home built trailer makes it not worth the time.
