Hey all 21 trd offroad 51k miles here, transmission isn't quite the smoothest shifting transmission ever. Other than all the other characteristics that it shares with every other tacoma like shifting all the time it seems like it lurches into gear or kinda jumps into gear, and in certain traffic situations where you're on the gas and left off and back on again it trembles a little before going again. Any one else have these issues? Should the dealer doing a trans service help? Thanks!

Getting the fluid serviced will do two things, freshen the fluid, and also ensure the fluid is set correctly.

Make sure you claim you think its low or the tech might just measure what comes out and put it back in. Looooooooads of techs cheat like this.

I’ve experienced exactly what you are describing. I am not sure why but it appears to only happen when the truck is at operating temp. As it is warming up to temp, it is much smoother. Also, if i drive around for a week or two in S mode it and then back to D it takes a few days to start getting wonky again. I have not tried any remedy for permanent fix.

Have you checked your fluid levels or had the transmission serviced and seen any results?

Talked to dealership regarding the situation and was quoted $300 for fluid swap and no guarantee it would fix. They described it as normal for the vehicle. I was not paying 300 bucks considering vehicle only has 20k on it (only had 15k at time of discussion)
