    Remove the bolt and try it. Shouldn't be a bolt btw.

    Yeah.
    It's been a while since I had my '92 with that brake handle, but don't you just pull the handle to set, then press the button and turn to release? Looks like they did a modification to turn the brake light off.

    What it looks like to me is the front cable stretched and the light wouldn't go out (happened to me) so they put a bolt in somehow - or - the flat tab that's supposed to be there broke off or fell out so this was a quick fix. Should look something like this.

    <TL;DR>

    In mine, and apparently common, is the front cable gets stretched and it's just enough to not depress the switch, so the brake light flickers or won't go out. A good temporary fix is to put a piece of hose over the "tab" but the first place most owners look (including me) is to the rear cable, brake mechanisms, or the intermediary lever. If everything appears to be working, look at the front cable first.

    The "good news" is I have a new rear cable and well greased operational intermediary shaft . . . before fixing the actual problem. :-D
