    That sucks

Amazon sells case parts kits for this reason, get a set! It'll come in handy in the future for sure

The parts would've come with the case

I'm pumped. Got my NAS up and running! Only things that cost me $ were the hard drives, an ethernet cable, and a DVI-HDMI adapter for the initial setup. Got the PC itself from my parents' closet last time I visited. Threw in some old ram sticks, an upgraded CPU I had laying around (i3 something to i5 4670, not a huge upgrade but still something hah).

The original HP case only has space for mounting 1 hdd, so I 3d printed some holders to fit the two 3.5's and 1 2.5" boot drive.

    IMG_9598.HEIC.jpg

    IMG_9599.HEIC.jpg

TrueNAS wasn't super intuitive, but two youtube videos later and I feel like I have a pretty good grasp.

Long-term sustained write speeds of 112mb/s, which theoretically on 1g networking I'm close to the max of 125mb/s. I'm happy with that. CPU topped out at about 27% doing long term writes, as well.

    upload_2024-2-4_14-45-50.png

Got it setup on my PC, my phone, and my wife's phone and already transferred all the important stuff I wanted to backup over.

Now it'll basically get forgotten about and live it's life in the back of the pantry (router is in the same closet) quietly humming along.

Anyone running any dockers on a truenas setup? Thinking I'll eventually set up jellyfin, maybe a VPN, and maybe a auto-backer-upper.

Try & reseat the graphics card & change the HDMI (DisplayPort) cable. I know it's the CPU light, but it's worth a try.

I have the same basic system. Those lights are worthless.

The only thing else I can think of is pull the RAM, if you have dual, put one stick in, boot , then the other.

If you know what I mean. I'll try & help, if I can :)

Yeah, that's sad. Mine has run fine for 3-4 years now.

Need a couple of fans, power supply and the case to turn up and I’ll start putting it together.

Oh I do the building of the computers but I'm lazy to take pics of them most of the time anymore, so sorry for this really crap pic lol.

This is the current rig (I don't game so no need for a gpu):

Jesus, you have more RAM and VRAM sitting there than every computer and graphics card I've ever owned combined. What kind of workload are you doing with a rig like that? Or is it just shits and giggles top of the line fun money? What case are you putting it in?

lol, I usually keep a machine for ten-ish years so I’ve future proofed it a little bit. I’ll be using it for both games and production as I build synthetic terrain for a commercial simulator titled VBS4 - Virtual Battlespace 4 - so that military personnel can train digitally in a safe environment before putting that training into practice live.

I planned to use a Hyte Y70 case but they have been pushed back another month so I ordered a Fractal Design “North” case to check out for now.

Ahhh that makes sense, I'm sure that's pretty ram intensive.

The Fractal Design North was on my christmas list. love the looks and buildability of it (but can't justify spending the money on myself, was hoping someone was going to haha)

My friend/neighbor has like 3 in his shop ready for sale

Personally I want a Fractal Terra, but don't want to buy a new ITX and SFF psu

I wanted a fractal, but cost was too high after my upgrades. They sure look sharp.

I have an Amazon special thats really surprised me.

    What one?

I ask because as a former Fractal Design user (I've had maybe 4-5), I went NZXT for my current one about two years ago because I wanted black & white

    20240130_101524.jpg

My old Fractal with a 6700k I built back in 2015

    20221028_095859.jpg

They're a bit more now (at least the nicer ones) so I just bought an Antec for an old-school build of my old parts I've got laying around; cheap Antec that was on sale on Amazon

    20240206_135044.jpg

It'll receive an old Core 2 Quad CPU, running a 780SLI board with either two way or three way SLI for funsies :anonymous:

https://www.amazon.ca/DeepCool-CC56...d=1707270897&sprefix=deepcool,aps,221&sr=8-10 boring but cheap (canadian prices)

I came from a Raven 90 degree case, it was massive, but was really good for the big boy cards and weight.

Had to finally change due to major thermal issues.

Antec 900 was my prior case.

I have a buddy that bought the plain piano black fractal and hes happy with it, I couldnt imagine not seeing a 4090 but thats me.

Never had an Antec case before, but they've been in the business for a long time. Can't be a bad choice right?

Makes sense about Canadian prices though, it gets expensive AF getting stuff to you guys out there.

My biggest case was a Thermaltake Armor Series case  thick ass steel panels all around, it was a big boy

    Yeah.
That's really cool! Just watched a YouTube video.

I was building mini-ITX cubes for several years but performance demands increased from the minions. Not really happy with the cheaper NZXT case I used for one build, but I really like the Corsair Airflows. I used a 4000D for the other minion, and went with another one for my current build. Fans everywhere, but quiet and cool.

I've been looking into the Terra heavily in the past few weeks. I may end up doing it, just worried about cooling issues.
