I am 78 years old and have always tried to be a DIY kind of guy. I am by no means a mechanic or have a lot of auto mechanic knowledge, but I have tried to do some of the maintenance on my vehicles. I currently have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma that looks like new and has approximately 80,000 miles. I like to trouble shoot problems when they arise rather than just replace parts until the problem is fixed. That's the expensive way.
I currently have a problem that has me baffled. My dome light (not the map lights) doesn't work even when it is in the "On" position. I pulled the original buib out and it looked good. An incandescent filament that appeared to be intact. I bought a new bulb (LED 578) and it didn't work either. I checked the fuse (7.5amp) for the lights and clock and it was good. The clock and map, and visor lights all work fine. I doubt it is the wiring. The truck has never been in an accident. I pulled the fixture down and unhooked the wiring harness and unplugged it. It didn't appear to have anything wrong with it. I tried to do some electrical troubleshooting to see if there was power to the fixture, but didn't really know what I was doing, so inconclusive. The only thing that I can think is that there is a problem with the (On, Off, Door) switch. Doesn't anyone have an idea about how to make a conclusive identification of the problem?
