I changed the oil in my 2019 trd pro yesterday. After draining the oil I could smell fuel. I haven’t noticed this before. The truck is running fine and I don’t smell fuel in the cabin. Is this something I should be worried about?

    Somewhat normal…….

    How many miles on oil?
More idling or city traffic driving lately?

4,800 miles on the oil I changed. Recently a lot of short trips running errands around my house. Maybe 4-8 miles at a time. Not much idle time

This comes up here from time to time. I don't recall this ever being considered very problematic. But then again, what the hell do I know!

Short trips, colder weather, that will do it.

Try to get the revs up which gets the oil temps up to help burn off acids and moisture, and drive longer.

You smell hydrocarbons. Not necessarily fuel

Appreciate the responses. My first thought was fuel injectors. Hopefully it’s the shorter trips.

Normal, keep using the same intervals and you'll have no issues. It's the oils job to contain the fuel like this.

I've got about 85k on my truck and the oil has always smelled like fuel. 0 issues. I tow a lot and do frequent short trips.

I'd not worry about this too much. I can't recall ever seeing any negative conclusions to this.

There are several threads about this, so if you want to read more, search and you should either find a comforting post, or be convinced your truck is a ticking time bomb.

    Good luck on your travels.

Internal combustion is a dirty business. Very common for fuel vapors to get down in the crankcase and mix with the oil

On other vehicles and equipment I've done oil samples on in that past(gas and diesel) fuel dilution was always <1%.
On my '21 taco, it's always a minimum of 1% sometimes as high as 2.5%.

I assume It has to do with the dual fuel injectors working OT to keep things clean.

I'd hate to see what it looks like at 10k oci.

That’s why frequent oil changes at 6 months or 5k miles is so important. Gasoline is a solvent and breaks down oil. Just my humble opinion

Nothing to do with OCI. You could go 100k miles and not have fuel dilution issues if PCV is working correctly and the engine is warm.

Not saying the OCI is the cause of the fuel dilution. I was implying that fuel dilution is a problem and that going with longer OCIs will result in a great accumulated amount of fuel with each round.
