Moroso Oil Catch Can Observation

After having this for a couple of years figure I would do a follow up in case anyone is interested or cares. Oil changes are done every 3,500 miles and the weather between the changes has been from the hottest day 102F to the coldest -23F. It seems to be doing the job it was designed to do, how the internals are I have no clue. Engine is a rebuilt from Yota1 and has around 35K on it.

 

Looks like the stuff I get in my catch can every 1,000 miles.

is your brake fluid ok? Maybe just the light or stained, looks dark. (Had a few mature vehicles: master/slave cylinder got stained even though fluid was ok)

 

It's shocking what these things capture. Kinda makes me want to just let the engine burn it... Lol

 

Wow!! The red really pops in that engine bay, looks good.

 

Honestly its probably due, 3 years I think. Will do it in the spring along with coolant change and SS brake line swap.

well judging by the pics yours are set up the same way, have the same design

one is $200, one is $30

and the eBay/Amazon comes with dipstick + metal foam

 

Just looked at the Moroso set on Amazon, $210.99 bucks....Geez!! Picked up 3 of these for $75 a pop at J&P cycles in Sturgis a few years ago. Tons of other cans that can do the same job for way less. I still blame the booze for the purchases......

 

only setup I know of that offers more than the rest is Mann ProVent
-replaceable strainer
-drain that can route back into engine, with a one way line valve
so that it's maintenance-free. Filters out, sends oil back into motor. Appearance-wise blends in. Besides 40k or so strainer replace interval.
vs every other can emptying it each oil change

where to connect the drain back into motor, I have no idea
if even possible at all

 

The black ones work fine.. I recommend getting a dual inlet one if you have the 3.4L though

 

If your catch can needs cleaned out every oil change then you got way bigger issues then the strainer type.

 

Can you explain what a dual inlet would be hooking to and what its purpose is?

 

One side from the PCV valve, one side from the right valve cover. That way you get all the oil. I just vent mine via hose to under the battery area - haven't had anything come out, but you can feel the air pressure at times

 

It’s not completely full every oil change.

pretty easy to empty it while the pan drains.

Also: revised the fittings on the can from 3/8" hose barb to 1/2".

 

I have the Bejing F1 Racing model. Added more SS wool. Empty it with 5K oil changes, about 4-6 oz. of goo.

 

Moroso can is nice though. It just belongs in a Mustang
