    G'morning all,

After a good bit of research and a little bit of shopping, I pulled the trigger on a '21 tacoma (V6, 4x4, 24K miles) over the weekend from a dealership. I have never bought anything, but 3rd party used vehicles, but was advised if I was interested in something new-ish and planned to keep it for a while, the dealership may not be a terrible idea.

The truck is certified and came with the 100K powertrain warrantee, and the finance guy talked me into the platinum extended plan (covered up to 125K miles) for $1K. I always scoff at extra warrantee offers and am not convinced it was the right move, but with so few miles it didn't seem like a terrible idea.

A couple questions for those who have experience with either/both of these warranties...

    1) Are there things I should be looking out for to take advantage their coverage? Not looking for like unethical, swindle type tips, but how to use them appropriately to get my money's worth.

    2) Is there anything dumb I should avoid doing to make sure I stay within the warrantee agreement? For the last 20 years or so, I have done pretty close to all maintenance and mods on my cars - short of a transmission replacement a few years ago. For example, will I void coverage on the radio/sound system if I swap out the speakers? Do I need to get oil at plugs changed by a cert toyota mechanic?

Obviously, I am reading the paperwork, but both of these warranty's terms seem to be ubiquitous across buyers, so was just looking for some 'real-world' experience.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

That price is pretty strong that you paid to "wrap" the coverage. If you search warranty in the 3G sub Jerry ____ will come up out of Kansas and I want to say a 7/100k is $1,260? Being certified already, maybe that is why it's cheaper.
Regarding question 2, if the modification is the direct cause of the issue they can not pay for the repair work. But lets say your coolant pipe has an issue, they won't deny it due to aftermarket speakers.

Where's the pics of this new truck?

Just looked at the contract - it's a 7/125K, with $50 deductible. Not sure if 'platinum' level means anything special

Platinum level usually is the best coverage. If you’re going to buy a warranty it’s the way to go. Is your truck a 4x4? Usually coverage is a lot more if so. Even 1k with that deductible seems like a really solid deal. I worked for auto groups for 10 years and I can tell you if in-fact that’s a top tier platinum warranty it’s a good deal. You can always cancel them if you want and they are usually prorated. Seems like some pretty insurance to me

I had the Toyota gold extended warranty on a Celica I nought new awhile back LOL. It was well spent money. Platinum plan must be extra cool, I had many items repaired @ $50 bucks a pop including head bolts replacement cause of a Toyota PSN. Extra warranty way worth it in my opinion.
