Who's come across a good watering hole still on a dirt road during their travels?

The Baum Shelter in Warren, ID was exceptional. Worth the visit for sure!

I've been to one in Yellowpine, ID, as well, and I want to check out Silver City, ID, and Jarbridge, NV.

So where else can you still find one?

Well, there's Silverton- the biggest damn tourist trap that isn't yet paved.

Kiva bar, Terlingua Tx. There are lots of cool places in that area, and they are rapidly gaining in popularity, fortunately/unfortunately.

And here's a weird one on a strict technicality due to being on all of a quarter mile's worth of graded dirt, the bar inside the Cloudcroft Lodge hotel. Be sure to ask the front desk about the tower, and while you're there ask about the ghosts. That one is a cool ass bar though. Very old school class

Aight, one of my personal secret favorites.

I dig this place because it was the perfect place to introduce the outdoor-reluctant to the world of camping. You got a significant other that says "eww" to the idea of driving down a dirt road and spending the night? Go here.:evil:

4R Ranch and winery. Just 90 short minutes from Dallas.

What you like - monster campsites. By monster, I mean monster. You get a crazy ton of space to yourself.

I mean, a different site, fucking spaaaace

    And another site- spaaaaaaaaa

What she likes - this is a 15 minute walk from any of those previous pictures:

It's wine and pizza. It isn't a bar, but at least it's got booze. And there's no pavement for 20 miles. And it makes everyone happy. We go here five times a year. It's a great way to make someone more amenable to the crazier camp trips.

If you're looking at places like Jarbidge (definitely "out there") and Silver City (a bit away, but a tourist trap :) ) then you'll want to check out Gold Point, NV as well. It's even more "out there" than Jarbidge.

I didn't take a picture of the bar, since that's not our thing, but here's main street (down the block from the bar) and the jail/gallows (across the street from the bar). I dunno of there's camping in town, but you're not far from Death Valley, and the entire place is surrounded by BLM land.

Ah, forgot about Gold Point, I stand corrected. We spoke with the owner of the bar -- a very colorful guy. That was a part of a 100-mile-loop day, starting in Death Valley, also passing thru Lida, then back to DV via a convoluted route.

Some good recommendations! I'm going to have to put a map together, and end up at some of these places during my travels.

I figured you've come across a few, even though I know that's not your cup of tea. Regardless, I think it's fun to stop in and check out the local culture! :D

I find it amazing places like this still exist.
