The wierd thing for me is I have gone to estate sales for years. I observe people walking through what's left of a person's life and can't help but think this will be me someday.

Best gifts you can give to those you are leaving behind. Purge your belongings, tell them what YOU want done with your belongings, yourself, etc., even if that answer is "I don't care, do whatever you want."

it will be all of us someday. and nothing i or you value will have any real value to anyone else.

during covid, i saw the sales of a few local business guys that passed away suddenly, and then their lifetime collections of stuff got auctioned off for pennies.

    reminds me specifically of this:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b2IOOhJmxw
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/interactive/2024/ken-fritz-greatest-stereo-auction-cost/

just a great reminder to enjoy things as they are-- things. enjoy the moments with people more.

Yup, it's just stuff. Only means something to me and no one else. I enjoy using my tools. Hopefully the next owner will too. There are very few people in my circle. Most of my family is gone, I'm the end of the line. It's just my Betty and me. Her son may end up with some of my tools but truthfully I hope she sells it to survive if need be. It's just stuff.

Told the wife to sell all my stuff when I kick the bucket.

I told her to remarry, but I couldn't stand the thought of some asshole using my tools.

She says to me: what makes think I'm gonna marry another asshole?

ah ha ha, ive told my wife to sell nothing and save anything in my shop for my son and daughter. my best friend has also been instructed to keep that.

also my wife explains me to people as " oh my husband is an asshole. a Charming asshole. you will like him."

I’m looking to add a small (ish) tool box to sit on my office workbench. I’d prefer a metal box but I am not totally averse to a sturdy plastic one. I want 2 or 3 drawers. Any recommendations?

will second the husky boxes, I've a 72in steel top, and a 52inch box and upper cabinet, parked right next to my Cornwell box and service cart from my Dealership years. wife keeps asking me why i need all those boxes, and truth is I really don't but the storage and places to work are all really nice!

Could put some tread or grip tape on the underside where it contacts the tailgate also. Good job, those are stout!

My wife calls my garage "Jay's Tool Box Emporium" and as I have said I am a brand whore but I have a Husky box as my TV stand. I think it's the 46" and I think I paid less than $400 for it. It is an incredibly sturdy box. I think Husky boxes are the best on the market at the price point they are. The wide drawer on that box is my junk drawer stuffed with who knows what. Then I have one for hardware and one for batteries then a couple for weird random tools. One for smoker parts and shoes I don't want my kid to steal to pickup dog shit in another. It's a great box.

My friends can't wait for me to die. They are going to my house to offer my wife what I said I paid for my tools!
