I drove a TRD offroad today. Check out the pics next to my 2022 TRD Offroad (TRD 2" lift FYI). This was a premium package ($53K) but dealer is not selling it right now - they want to use it as a demo for customers. They did say I could put a deposit on it and pick it up in 2 weeks - NO THANKS!

I am waiting it out until the Landcruiser arrives - and possibly new generation 4runner (and interest rates to go down)

Pros- Interior is super nice. It's comfortable, LOVE the center console setup, and the giant screen is sweet. It's not in the way of the windshield whatsoever. Also - no start stop. At least it didn't do it during my test drive - so I don't think it has it.

Cons- Engine is quick, but it "feels" like a 4cyl. Some of you will understand what I am saying. The truck also seems a little smaller - inside. Backseat might have less leg room? Sure seems like it. I HATE the power tailgate. I couldn't even figure it out to be honest. Doesn't close automatically, and started opening when I pushed it to close.

Overall, nice truck. Price isn't nice. But the interior upgrades are absolutely huge. Driving my 2022 afterwards felt like traveling back in time.

QUICK UPDATE- After a few hours of post-driving it, I can say, the interior is still in my head. I cannot express just how much more of an upgrade it is.

Whatever is under the headlight (vent?) looks like a prison teardrop tattoo.

I'd have to get that painted to match the truck. I do like the grill much better.

The front end looks more stout - doesn't stick out as far.

Could you elaborate on the engine? I’m just curious as I’m sure this engine is a rocket compared to my little 3rz.

It's got more pull than the previous version - no doubt. Got up to 55 pretty quick. Not sure about shifting on highway; didn't go on the highway. I guess if I could explain how it feels compared to the V6 - it's like comparing sheet metal to steel. It just feels more "tin-like".

I hate the interior with the small screen but really like the interior with the big screen. Totally changes the vibe of the thing in pics. Even moving the power button to the center of the dash and having a red S/S PTS helps break it up and add depth to it.

Too bad I still don't like the price of it though.

Agree 100% - the big screen makes it look MUCH better. The screen is beautiful and I like the wireless carplay. The new Toyota software is much more modern feeling also.

Thanks for the feedback on the test drive! I think I know what you mean by "tinny" lol I drive a 97 rav4 and my mom has a 3.5 Rx350 so I guess that gives an idea. Of course not apples to apples but you know what I mean!

I think the 4 cylinder will be ok just because the truck from the get go was designed with it . Of course it will feel different . The question will be how will it hold up later on . Judging by Toyotas track record and the fact that the Tacoma is extremely important to there reputation I would think they did all their homework. There is a lot of stuff resting on this one. That I think will be in our favor

Listen, I'm not suggesting it's a bad powertrain whatsoever - it's just different. I presume, once you are used to it, it will be an improvement. I personally do NOT like the 2022's powertrain - I think it sucks on the highway (shifting). But it does feel different.

Was this the mid “premium” package with cloth seats at 53k?

looks like ventilated seats so it should be the full premium package.

Does the infotainment have vehicle controls integrated? Could make aftermarket much harder to install/ integrate. I would be more curious how much the large screen will retail for and how hard a DIY swap would be.
