Where did you get your drive shaft from?

Local Driveline shop. A good shop should be able to make you a nice custom double-cardan shaft; they'll just need to measure the distance between the output on the T-case and the pinion. Lots of people recommend Tom Woods, but I have heard their U-joints are junk if you actually go off-road.

Mine's got quality Spicer U-joints (sealed) However, the slip yoke and double-cardan joint are greasable. It was right around $600 and well worth it in my opinion. I refused to live with the vibes. I guess people do, but honestly, who really wants a truck that has a noisy driveline and vibrations?

It should solve your problems but only if you set it up correctly. If you don't know, research how a double-cardan works. https://4xshaft.com/blogs/general-tech-info-articles/driveshaft-angles You want the pinion pointed up a bit. In a regular 2 joint driveshaft (OEM Toyota) you want the input angles to be the same degree of operating angle so they cancel each other out. With a DC you want the pinion pointing up a bit, almost straight at the shaft. For my 3> inch lift, 2 degrees achieved this. There needs to be a slight degree of operating angle on the pinion end.

    IMG_4850.jpg

It may be difficult to see in the picture but notice how there is a very very slight (maybe 1 degree) of angle at the pinion end while the double-cardan at the the transfer case is what takes up all the angle.

mine has the same “rattle” when I let off the gas at speed. I’ve ignored it until now. My truck only has 26k miles on it. Recently when I was backing out of my driveway I heard a squeak or chirp. When I pushed in my clutch and it went away I realized it was coming from the driveshaft. I need to figure it out.

Are you lifted in the rear and did you change your pinion angle afterwards?

Completely stock but want to add scheel-mann seats.

I run scheel-mann seats in my other rides but not sure how to do it in this Tacoma with the occupant sensor, seat belt sensor, and air bag sensor issue.

Thank you for your fix on this!!! Very interesting.
My truck makes the same noise - typically 65-75 mph. Haven’t had any noticeable to me vibrations yet, plus I grease up the zerk fittings when I can so I don’t worry too much about it (although perhaps I should a little more concerned…)

Truck performed well in the snow during our snow storm this past week.

@rcn Truck looks great! I would like to get that same tire size excpt in a 17 inch wheel because there are way more options and load ratings avaliable. 255/80/r17 I believe?

Just holding off cause i don't want to spend the $ to regear. When i put the 265s on I noticed the lack of power on the highway, I couldn't imagine going one more size up without regearing. Plus I haven't ever taken this truck anywhere where I actually needed the extra clearance.

Also, I wouldn't worry about the shaft making that wind noise if you have no vibes. Just keep it greased, listen and inspect it every now and then.

Thanks @whiteknight4x4! Yeah, motor and auto tranny combo isn't a fan of all the weight and tires lol - but its doable kinda. For me, living at around 5000' elevation, it would be nice to be able hold 3rd gear going up the passes and not going into 2nd gear. I debated between 265's and skinny 33's for awhile and decided just to dive into the 33's. I've been happy with the decision so far.

I believe its 255/80r17. I like the stock steel wheels, so I stuck with the 16's.

I wanted to go 255/80r17 but they have no offerings other than "E" rated tires. When I ran skinny tires I felt they rode rougher then the 265 sizes in "E". I really want to go "C" rated this time, so I'm limited to 275 and 265 this time.

Here was my 2014! Bought new from Toyota. Unfortunately I wound up selling it to a family friend back in 2018. I will most likely buy this truck back by the end of the month!

I've been thinking about the Katzkins since I bought my truck 6 years ago and this is the first picture I've ever seen on a regular cab. Got anymore?

I did the install myself, both the heated seats and the leather install. It is a time consuming process, but was able to knock it all out in one day. It was totally worth it. Just take your time and don’t rush it. The hardest part for me was getting the leather around the headrest without tearing the leather (recommend two people for this part). A steamer to heat up the leather is a must to allow it to have some stretch to it. These are the only photos I have at this time. All the “wrinkles” worked themselves out in about a week of having the leather installed. IMG_1556.jpgIMG_1557.jpg
