It's funny, our state forestry department has fire danger signs... there's one at Blue Ridge Summit and one in town, just off the top of my head.
Nobody pays them the slightest attention.
Except for the Township, they'll ban open fires when the state says high fire danger.
    Which doesn't stop anyone

The worst fire I can remember in all my years here started behind the rifle range at my Club.
Some of the Directors thought somebody was firing tracers, but nothing was proved.

Anyway, it was August and during one of our rare dry spells (dry for here).
    Dry is a relative term.
Temperature was in the high 90s.
The fire burned leaf litter all the way to the crest of Shippen Knob.
And burned itself out... that's it :p
Next year you would have never known there was a fire there at all.

All the nearby fire fighting units were at the Club, but what could they do?
Their equipment and training were unsuitable for the situation.
    So basically they watched it.

What was needed was a bunch of guys with shovels and Pulaski brush axes.
The nearest serious Federal Interior Department forest fire unit is in George Washington National Forest in Virginia.

    Out West, yeah.
    Wildfires are a serious thing.
    Here, not so much.
It (almost) never gets dry enough.

Used to see em in the South Glades and the Keys.

    I'll give you some reasons:
    1. They piss on my deck and exterior of my house - I go outside in the morning and all I smell is cat piss yet I don't own cats
    2. They hunt wildlife in my yard - I like the birds and snakes and such, I don't want cats hunting in my yard - I want the wildlife
    3. Cats are the most destructive invasive species - killing off more wildlife/doing more damage than even hogs
    4. For some reason people think it is okay to not spay/neuter their animals but let them roam free; If I did that with my dog, I bet animal control would show up in a few days at most and I would be in trouble. How is it okay to let your pet wander on others property and do damage, yet you are not responsible?

I even bought a trap and have trapped a few and taken them to animal control - homie don't play that.

Indoor cats I have no qualms with.
Functional barn cats [ones that actually hunt] are also okay because they are doing a necessary job.

I agree 100% that people need to be respectful about their animals when letting them go outside, especially if there i sno fence or other means to contain the animals to their own yard. Here where we now live in rural KY, it is extremely common for people to leave their dogs outside all day, running loose. Some don't even have collars, and of course not easy to tell if they have even been spayed or neutered. One close neighbor has 2 dogs that are always loose outside. Sometimes they chase our car when we drive by, other times they just sit and watch us go by. Another neighbor on the other side of us has a couple or more loose dogs, and sometimes when we stop to get our mail, one of two of them come over to see what's going on. More than once, one of them got "too close for comfort" to my wife when she was by herself, and outside her car, getting our mail. Neither of us has been attacked, or actually threatened, but even this type of close encounter should not happen.

My brother-in-law, who lives in the next town up the freeway, is a tri-athlete type, and does a ton of bike training for 100+ mile rides. There are actually quite a few in KY every year! He frequently tells us that he's been chased by many dogs running loose when he goes out for training rides. He even went so far as to buy a paint ball gun that looks like a real semi-auto handgun, and got some pepper-spray paint balls for it, so he can carry when he rides, and use on dogs that may get too close.
