I recently bought my truck and it came with a BedRug that the previous owner installed. There was no cap or tonneau cover. I then bought a Leer cap, and a day after install I opened the back and it had a very strong smell of wet, mildewy carpet. BedRug is advertised as being mold and mildew resistant, so I assumed it was the caps carpet since the windows leak during a car wash and I had just washed the truck. I pulled the cap off and removed the BedRug so I could go through cleaning the cap carpet and sealing everything and found it is NOT the cap, but the BedRug that smells. I plan to bring it to the car wash and spray it down and scrub it with the brush and wand, but I'm concerned thats not going to be enough to get the smell out. Any recommendations?

I’d soak it down with some water and bleach mixed. Then hit it with a power washer. Should be fine after that. If you’re worried about bleach, use some other type of disinfectant cleaner

I'd use a pump sprayer, a little bleach mixed with water, soak it down, pressure wash it.

Let it sit in the sun as long as possible, at least a day or two - reinstall.

If the smell comes back, reach out to BedRug
