Knocking sound 2.7l

    I have 2008 tacoma 2.7 I start hearing a knocking sound near the engine not sure where exactly but I feel it’s coming from bottom front side the sound comes and go but it not getting louder when I accelerate, u can say it’s steady ( I noticed when the sound comes the pulley tensioner start playing up and down )

    Sounds like something is hitting your cooling fan blades but no way to tell for sure because diagnosing sounds over the internet is next to impossible. How many miles are on the belt, pulleys, and tensioner? Might be a good time to do that job as preventative maintenance anyways. Good luck finding the noise.

    The belt around 10k but the pulleys and the tensioner are old am not sure how many miles. It doesn’t sound like a crank knocking?

    Does the sound change when AC is on?
    What about when steering wheel is turned?
    No difference when engine RPM is increased. That’s the odd part.
