Any woodworkers?

I’d bet some inspector somewhere would be looking at that hip framing there and be like “close enough” but then require a amendment letter to plans or a complete resubmission of plans with a engineering stamp because the pitch rise was off 1 inch.

 

I never seen me older bro dedicated as he was on this Frankenstein plan. Works very well. Made from remnants.

 

That's kind of like my setup. I will upgrade this one day to an Oneida set up. But for now this works very well. Hardly anything makes it to the bag now and the drum makes it much easier to empty.

 

While looking on FB Marketplace I found a guy who has a mill, advertising he will cut slabs for people. This may be too small a job, but if I get the wood I'll reach out and talk to him. If it works out, would you cut them into 2 inch slabs, 1 inch or a variety of thicknesses? I have a band saw that can resaw up to 6", but any slab wider would be a challenge to reduce the thickness.

 

Crazy amount of time, but fun. Use a plunge router fixed to a jig. That’s what I did to finish off my bench made of Eucalyptus.

 

I really like Eucalyptus as well. There's an add for free Eucalyptus locally. Someone had a giant tree cut down and wants someone to come get the logs. Unfortunately, it looks like all the manageable pieces are gone, and only massive pieces, requiring multiple people and a lift to even move them, are all that's left.

 

They won’t allow you to mill it?

 

I don't have a mill. Wish I did (and room for it). I have a small electric chainsaw but that won't work very well.

Well, I got it. A lot of it. Way more than was in the pics. In fact, I left some as my truck was full. It's going to be stored in the truck bed until I can figure out what to do with it.

 

If you can paint the ends helps reduce checking

 

Looking for some advice on a new tool purchase. I am going to purchase myself my first bandsaw for my birthday next month. I have been looking for a used saw for a few months and everything that is promising is far away or overpriced. Due to this, I have decided to purchase something new. I have narrowed it down to three, but am open to other options. I don't really want to go larger than 14 due to having access to a Laguna 18 at my father in law's shop. I am currently considering the Rikon 10-326, the Laguna 14bx, and the Harvey Ambassador. This will be my first bandsaw so any of the three will be amazing to me. I have been watching YouTube videos and reading as much as I can, but am still undecide. Anyone have any strong feelings or thoughts about any of these machines?

 

No idea from me, they are all light years better than my 30 year old Delta.
