Machining is so far out of my element, I wouldn't know exactly what you'd use but yeah I can look for a pic to give you an idea:rofl:

In short, the angle will cut out will be much more aggressive than the angle the piece going in will be bent to; this will in turn make it an air bent piece versus bottom bending or coining. It'll help with preventing deformation due to the flange to feature distance.

I'll look locally for a block of 4140; fortunate thing is I have 6 fab/metal suppliers within 15mins from home so shouldn't be hard.

This is what I'm imagining you are talking about.... 12" long, 80° "V" with a little relief at the bottom to accommodate machining...

    Hey, a Fusion user! :fistbump:

I didn't think about the relief at the bottom; makes sense but I don't see myself using it since the 80 degree will create a 90 degree bend in the work material without fully bottoming into the die.

Let me find an engineer first

Ha ha no, the relief is so I can machine this with a square endmill. I’m going to lay the die over at an angle, machine one wall, then lay it over on the other side… repeat. Unless someone else has a better idea!

Thankfully I have the Logan 820, but she needs a 1HP motor.

Husqvarna 3120xp WG carburetor I machined to accept the choke plate as the throttle plate. Big bore WG’s can keep up with Tillotsons. I no longer use them.

I’ve never set the mill up to drill on the end of long pieces like that. It was a snap! I also tapped holes on the mil for the first time. The speed control let me go slow enough it stops in about a half a revolution. Maybe less. Money!

Came across too good of a deal on a bridgeport I could not pass on. Getting it all cleaned up and assembled. Unfortunately the previous owner used grease in all the oil ports.

Keep an eye out. This was $200 and so far it has all the parts. Yesterday I set up the gib for the knee.

Yah atm I have no time to look. Sigh. Been machining a bunch of flat plate for my kids high school robotics team. Flat stuff is new for me. Nearly took the ots out - I was so focused on not hitting the toe clamps! Phew!

Been dabbling in macro programming lately.

Pretty wild how simple yet powerful it is.

Made a setup tool call program so it tool changes then precalls the next tool. Saving me from having to write t22m6; t23m6;…etc every time. Also dont have to wait for the 90 tool carousel to index from one side to the other.

Added a new m code that calls t0(empty tool) then moves to the middle of the travel for a shut down position so i dont have to hand jog every time i power off.

Little things but it all adds up.

I would like to start doing this. Have you ever thought of doing this in your post processor? I love Fusion's "part presenting" jog at the end of a cycle. I'd also like to add a check that if the tool offset is zero it throws an error....

I’ve only read a bout 2/3’s of this book. I had to take a break to try some stuff on the machine to get a better understanding before i continued.

i will warn you, it is a very boring read

    IMG_2055.jpg

I program on mastercam and use CAMplete to post to my 5-axis machines. I do tweak my posts a bit.
What is “part presenting”? Just moves it to the door for you?

This is quite easy to do. All you need to do is find your machines tool offset local variable (probably #300X) and write a simple statement such as

    N10
    IF[#3001 = 0]GOTO100

    N100
    #3006=99 (TOOL OFFSET NOT SET)

You would have to add this into your post as a subprogram call to keep it simple right after the tool change.

Looks like my kind of book. LOL.

And yeah exactly - it just figures out the center of all the moves, puts that in front of the door and jogs to max y.
I love this. I really want to put it in my post processor though so it gets added automatically every time I post. I've watched John Saunders/NYCCNC do this in a couple videos but he goes a little fast for me. lol. Nothing makes me feel more stupid than writing code. LOL!

Oh yeah that would be nice. Usually we just add a g0 g91 x line in at the end.

    That book’s a good buy
Its laid out to be a good reference later

Make sure you find the books for your controller though
Theres slight differences between them all
