Has anyone on here swapped there 4 cylinder truck to the R156F manual that came in 2016-17 trucks? I'm wondering if it was worth it? I've my truck apart for a clutch and was thinking about it. I'll also be swapping in a twin stick FJ case at the same time.

What the difference other than 1st and 2nd gear ratios and the added triple syncros in 1st gear?
    Are they dimensionally the same?

Unless you just have a 156 setting there, It doesn't seem like it's worth it.

I should note my R155f is getting a little "crunchy." No grinds, but I can feel it in the shifter. I know dimensionally it's the same and bolts right up.

I swapped mine to an R156F but I was doing a full time AWD conversion at the same time so it made more sense. I am running stock 4.10s with 34” tires so the 4.31 1st gear is nice

One thing I will note is that I always found 1st and 2nd gear to be a little far apart with the old R155. Now that I have the R156F, the gears are different in 1st and 2nd and those are good, but now 2nd and 3rd seem a little far apart. Just something I have noticed between the two.

Good to know. I'm on 37's with 4.88 gears, so the lower 1st and 2nd would be beneficial. I usually run 2nd out a bit before grabbing 3rd so may not be a big deal.

I think it will serve you well. 1st gear goes in much more easily as well while moving at low speed vs the R155. I think they added a triple cone synchro to 1st. That’s the only other major difference I noticed

Good deal. The local salvage yard has a R156F with 65k miles. They only want 1100 out the door, tax and core included which is about 400 cheaper than the R155F transmissions they have with twice the mileage.

Well, I yanked the clutch out this morning. Not sure the clutch is supposed to be mud impregnated. It was cracked at every other groove, and throwout bearing said F you I'm out of here.
