I just got my 2007 Tacoma and when accelerating around 30-40 mph the truck shakes and rattles the dashboard. Hoping it’s not a transmission issue but wondering if anyone has had this problem or can help.

Is it lifted? Drive shaft angle could be off.

If shaking is at 30-40 regardless of what gear you are in, it most likely will be ujoints. A bad carrier/center bearing will produce a thumping sound behind the front seats. Bad wheel bearings could also cause vibrations when bad. The vibrations will disappear or significantly diminish if you turn into the bad bearing.

@OffroadToy I’m looking to buy an ‘07 Taco and the dealer said there’s an issue with the “driveline” but didn’t specify exactly what. I’m taking notes from this forum and thinking I’ll bring the truck into a mechanic to check all of the above. Would you recommend doing that? Would be my first taco and I’ve read that 07’s have most complaints. Price is good for 155k miles. Thanks

I would recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection done on any used vehicle before you buy it regardless of what it is, and not by the dealer/shop/owner that's selling it.

I would say 07-15 is the best year range for 2nd gens but they are all pretty much mechanically identical drivetrain wise.
They can essentially be broken down into 3 year ranges where everything is pretty much identical between them:

05-08 (05 and early 06 had a higher headgasket and engine mount failure rate, these issues were fixed after 06).
09-11 (some safety features such as side airbags and traction/stability control became standard).
12-15 (front grille, headlights, hood, and interior were updated, Secondary Air Injection was added to the 4.0L V6 (the 2012 4.0L V6 Air Injection System was quite problematic so I'd avoid that year).

@Dm93 - Got some pictures of the bottom as I’ve heard they could have rust issues. This car has been mainly out of CA and UT, wondering if there’s anything you could help point out?

@Nickybons Undercarriage looks pretty good. A couple cans of Fluid Film can help prevent rust buildup. A marine corrosion inhibitor also works. I second paying for an used-vehicle inspection if at all possible.
