True but a lot of people blow it out of proportion, specifically those that repeat what they heard or read on the internet

Those people being hobbyist types that have smaller tables, whether a cheaper turn key or DIY setup

Being on a few groups and forums, with lots of people cutting aluminum, no such accident has ever occured

One guy mentioned hearing a small faint pop of some sort, but it was like the tiniest firework

Thanks for the details. I've cut aluminum on my water table often. I was not aware of the hydrogen development aspect.

With that said, it would take a hell of a pocket of H to create a hazard.

With the small parts we do, I can't see how a pocket of gas would develope.

Regardless, I thank you all for the info.

How do I tell whether a 10 cu ft acetylene tank is full?

I purchased a portable torch kit that came with oxy and acetyl tanks. I traded my brand spanking new tank in to my local gas supplier for the shittiest looking tank covered in a combination of floor debris and spiderweb with a cantankerous valve. I have a feeling hobbyist that stop in a very rare occasion get the shitty stuff. It feels about as light as the empty tank. How do I tell a "level" besides the regulator gauge showing life? TIA

It should show 2000 psi on the primary gauge and it should be much heavier.

    This

You don't get to pick your tanks when you do exchanges, but also why I tell people not to bother with getting a "pretty" tank unless you want to pay extra for the labor of filling

Maybe go with a different supplier? All my exchanged tanks look practically new

    Depends where you live !

Every distributor is going to be different.

The ones I go to check the pressure with a regulator before it leaves the dock

Appreciate it gents. First time I cracked the valve w/the regulator hooked up and it shows exactly 1200 psi. This is a 10 cf acetylene tank.

you got your smiley faces mixed up. needing to use the 'less fire' option is always a sad face time.

    I dunno.

A 100* beer can be cooled down with a CO2 extinguisher enough to make it taste pretty good on Uber hot day.

When those extinguishers age out, might as use it for something useful.

haha I was thinking the same thing

So I found a deal that seemed too good to pass up this weekend down in RI. Its a well used machine but the screen is functional, just has a bit of paint splatter on it. The guy was wicked cool, seemed to know his shit. He fired it up on 240v and did a few nice welds.

Came with just about everything I could need to start, all for $1800
    -C25 bottle & regulator
    -Spool gun
    -Tig torch
-Has the K4104-1 Tig pedal adapter wired in already, though did not come with a pedal
    -Cheap little HF cart
    -Eastwood tungsten grinder
-4 or 5 spools of wire including AL spools
-Various types of sticks and filler rods
-A whole case full of consumables, gas lenses, etc etc

Unfortunately Im traveling for work all day tomorrow then the weather gets super cold here for the next few days. But I hope to lay everything out later in the week and take a full inventory. That blue tote is right packed with all the extra stuff that came with the machine
