Hey, looking into buying a 2.5 gen truck. Not really sure if off road trim would be necessary for beach driving? Other than that I wouldn’t be doing anything crazy, maybe some mud trails and here in the northeast we get some decent snowfall. Just curious what y’all think, and what a good price point for these might be..

Side note, looking to buy, I’m in NJ if you of know anything. Thanks!

I like 4WD. I had my 4WD truck on a sandy road that was not paved. For giggles I put it in 2WD and the tires just spun. 4WD may not be necessary but gets you out of even mild loss-of-traction conditions like sand and snow. Subaru may not be as capable off-road but people still buy it for AWD for snow and mud.

Not a Tacoma, but I have a suv that was 4wd that I took anywhere I wanted with open diffs (non trd equivalent)
Hunting trails, beaches, dirt roads, light mud

I now have that same suv with front and rear lockers, steel bumpers, winch, rock sliders and skids
All that stuff is only used when I want to play on offroad trails/parks/rock crawling

I slapped a bumper and winch on my 2015 Tacoma, 4x4 but open diffs, and that gives me enough comfort to get out of the minor stuck situations that might occur

No advice other than make it a habit to go through car washes with under spray often.

I run open diffs on Fort Fisher probably 20 times a year and have no issue - going to a 33, I don't even air down anymore unless it is a really hot soft day. Set of traction boards does wonders for confidence as well - don't have to depend on someone else bending your frame to get you out... if the worst happens.

As said above - fluid film in the spring and wash it down with low-pressure water after each trip. 7 years in and no rust
