I have a TRD sport ordered and I still have time to add some of the exterior options because the dealer I guess does that. I saw a thread about spray on bed liner not being worth it and it got me thinking about all of the other exterior options available. There are door edge guards, side molding, tail pipe coating, spray on bed liner, bed step, running boards...

I more interested in the functionality than aesthetic. So things to protect from scratches, rust, etc. I am open to doing some things myself. I've been getting targeted ads and it looks simple enough to install running boards and the bed step, right?

Edge guards on trucks look awful. Get running boards and they'll protect from most dings.

Tacomas have had composite beds since 2005, so there's nothing to spray, its not metal, it doesn't run or scratch.

You're gonna have to be patient. All I can suggest is get a paint protection, like 3m invisible bra, or ceramicoat.

Get an OEM bed mat. Keeping things from sliding around.

Is there an advantage to buying options from the dealer vs. a local supplier? I'm imagining the dealer would be more expensive but maybe their products would be a more custom fit. I'm planning to get a tonneau cover, bed mat, running boards, and bed step.

Usually any Toyota supplied/branded accessories installed at time of purchase will be covered under the 3Y/36K warranty. Some of those items you listed should never have a warranty claim so would be cheaper to buy none OEM or look for a online Toyota parts dealer that sells for a discounted rate.

No idea for sure but thinks like steps and boards are usually simple bolt on jobs. The only issue right now is no one has OEM accessories. Don't know about after market options for 24s
