    I used to work with a guy who swore parking a manual transmission vehicle in gear would damage the transmission. He was an engineer.. a mechanical engineer..from MIT..whose project at the time was designing a transmission. I hate to rag on nerds, but man, we really do deserve it sometimes.

    I had a similar experience when an engineer buddy tell me I'd stretch the return springs and wear the shifter bushing out if I parked in gear. Nevermind that I was also an engineer at the time. He went to RPI. haha
