Was wondering if anyone here has removed their Projector headlamp assemblies and replaced with a 2018+ LED headlamp assembly with the sequential lighting. Everything thing I've come across mentions about the DTRL and our 2017 or older do not have this feature unless its a PRO. I have a TRD Sport which does have DTRL (daytime running lights), I'd rather have these OEM Headlamps instead of buying after market.

First question you should ask is should I go with a pair of $10 (each) Phillips H9 bulbs for brighter low beams with good coverage or a pair of $750 (each) OEM LED’s that are whiter but really not that much brighter than the H9’s?

Thanks, but for the Sport, you actually want to hit up @daveeasa The TRD trims are much too straightforward for me

By "really not that much brighter" you mean 1294 (Philips H9) vs 1636 (OEM LED) which is 26% brighter?

I feel like you'd be on firmer ground if you simply said the Philips H9's are a tremendous value, nobody will ever dispute that. By your logic, the 2024 prices are way less than "not that much more", yeah? And a 1 mil house is not that much more than 800k?

Of course everyone is entitled to their personal preference on temp and halogen vs led in terms of CRI and stuff.

I read his report about that also - where he said peak intensity is 10% less for the H9’s than for OEM LED’s (when the H9’s are new) - and I can see the difference also in our RAV4’s LED’s too but for a price increase of 14900% ? (No typo)

I guess age changes it though…

“While the Philips H9s are about 10% lower in peak intensity than the OEM LED, keep in mind the Philips halogens will fade by30% over the course of their lifetime, meaningin the later stages of the bulb life the LEDs will besubstantially brighter.”

Ah, you're quoting the 42' test showing 285 vs 258 lux? Which is 10.9% at 42'. That's a pretty solid delta really, 42' is a long ways out, 10% more at that distance is meaningful.

You're really cherry picking numbers here. You're entirely welcome to think the juice isn't worth the squeeze but the numbers say one thing and you're saying something else so you're much better off, as I said, giving your subjective opinion based on value rather than saying "they aren't much better".

…but that is how I read his initial report and why he decided to go with H9’s. It was a no brainer for me thinking that 10% difference was not a big deal. I did manage to source a large pack of German H9’s when they were more available. That’s ok, maybe I’ll save up for LEDs also for when my bulbs all eventually burn out or go too dim for my liking…
