    Hello,
I have a 96 taco with the 5vzfe. I’ve looked at all the threads I can find on this forum and elsewhere and I’m still at a loss.

I was driving the truck and it was running perfectly, I parked for about an hour and when I came back it didn’t start. I briefly had a p1300, but I cleared codes and it hasn’t come back despite many attempts to start the truck. I have confirmed strong spark, and I can smell fuel at the tailpipe after cranking a few times. Will not fire on starting fluid either, but I did get some white smoke after trying it.

I went through the entire fsm diagnostic procedure for the p1300 and replaced the igniter with a known good unit.

    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks

Check engine compression? Timing belt still in tact?

Timing belt is good, cam position sensor is good too. I have to buy a compression tester so that hasn’t been checked yet, but I can’t think of how compression could have failed with the engine off and above freezing.

I could be wrong but, for the vehicle to actually generate another code the engine has to start and run. Maybe p1300 good info or basis for further investigation.

I’ve gone through the entire fsm procedure for the p1300 with no luck, I’m not sure what else to do chasing the code

If you've confirmed its getting spark, try to put some starting fluid of some kind straight down the cylinder, put the plug back in and try. It should at least try to pop off.
