I have a 2004 silver Tacoma I bought new with 34 miles for $14,400, including tax and license. It now has 61,804 miles and I think I should give it a little love for all the dependable years, plus I like it to much to replace it. It is a base model 2wd single cab with 5-speed. It came with the "enhancement" package (rear bumper, air conditioning, styled steel wheels and some interior upgrades) as I couldn't buy a true base model in western WA. I had the dealer swap the carpet floor mats for the ribbed rubber ones. From 2004 to now I've done little but take it back to the dealer for service every 6 months.

For about the last 5 years the dealer has been recommending I replace the water pump. It flings just a tiny bit of coolant from behind the pulley, I've added about 1 quart of distilled water to keep it to the cold full mark over 5 years. So I will be getting that replaced, along with the coolant, belts, and hoses. They are all what Toyota installed at the NUMMI plant right now.

From that point I'm thinking a soft tonneau cover would look good and save some time cleaning the bed, but now sure about what brand it best (security is not an issue, but being able to easily clear the bed and store the bits is.) After that I am considering some aftermarket wheels, likely 16 inch with about the factory offset to replace the 15 inch stock wheels. I prefer wheels that are easy to clean.

What has been running through my head is to replace the grill, front parking lights, and front and rear bumper blades with the chrome ones available on higher trim packages. The stock charcoal blades are shedding paint and that seems pretty common.

My first post was 513 days ago. Today that Tacoma hit 66000 miles. Wow, that means my current annual mileage has been less than 3000 miles! It is a little dusty inside, but here you go!

I thought I would update this thread. My Tacoma is 20 years old today. I bought it valentines day 2004. I took it in for its annual oil change, I don't think my mileage warrants more than once a year. The dealer did tell me that original belts should be changed. The front brakes still have 3.5mm of pad left. It is still dusty inside -- I really should clean more than the factory rubber floor mats.

Very nice. Actually hope you have not modded the truck a lot since it is such a classic and 2wd. Wish I had a dash like that with minimal gauges. How about some pics?

It's still stock, a base 2004 with a 5-speed with the "enhancement package" (rear bumper, AC and a few other minor upgrades). I added the factory clock and 16 inch wheels (stock tire height and offset). After someone broke the original grill I bought the car color replacement parts from the dealer. At some point I need to repaint the bumper blades to match.
