Hey All, I am putting in a aux panel, and would really like to utilize Key on power(just for signaling), but my google foo is failing me. Where are you tapping key on power under the hood?

    Thanks!

Easy spot is the Towing circuit, grey 25A fuse. This powers a 12v line in the 7pin trailer plug.

the reason I like this is because the damage risk is basically zero. If you manage to mess it up, it won’t affect the truck driving home

This circuit is Ignition, not just accessory. So the truck has to be running. That’s another reason I like it; no risk of running the battery down

Are you using a Fuse Tap? How do you like that?

Add-a-circuit adapters are the only way to go for sure. Keeps the original circuit fused properly and protects the new circuit you’re adding as well. Installs easy and removes easy

Destin, your Taco must be special. That fuse is HOT always, it's connected to the Alternator buss bar.

You know what, you’re right. Good looking out

I had wires crossed in my head.

I have a 12v charging station in the bed of my truck and I knew it was only on with ignition, but that’s because I’m using the 40A Trailer battery charging circuit back at the 7pin. NOT the 25A Trailer circuit that goes into the combi-meter. Turns out they are different and in the 6 years since I installed it, I forgot that.

if you don’t want to splice any factory wiring, I used this quite often back in my stereo installer days. It creates a trigger when it senses a higher voltage (which means the alternator is running)
