I plan on lifting my 5lug, doing so i need to replace my shocks with nicers ones from what ive heard from research. I see ones listed on the how to lift your 5 lug guide the yellow bilstien ones. But my question is why could i not buy brand new tacoma shocks and throw them on my 09 5lug. (I see tacoma shocks that have been driven on for less then 1k miles on marketplace because everyone gets new suspension when buying tacomas nowadays. I see packages of 4 shocks for like 200$ on marketplace that have been pulled off of a new tacoma. Its cheaper then buying brand new ones. Why wouldnt this work or would it

Depends on how much lift and the type of lift. Also different shocks have different amounts of travel. If you are not planning to go off-road a lot, there is no need for spending a lot. Factory take offs may fit your needs. Good luck.

You need shocks specific to 5 lug, all modern Tacomas are 6 lug.

Typically the best shock available is 4600 bilstien which suits rough roads. Most use a small spacer on the front and add a leaf on the rear.
Ultimately there’s not many choices for 5 lugs.
