In other State Park news, McArthur Burney Falls State Park will be undergoing maintenance starting April 1st. Several trails will be closed including those used to access the falls. Just to make it more interesting, Caltrans will be working on 89...

Hey guys, thought this may be the best place to ask, with the most traction.
In the next few weeks I'm looking to do a solo trip to the coast. No crazy wheeling, just looking to be alone for a few days and take some pictures of some place totally new. I haven't seen the Pacific in about 15 years, and even in previous trips it was all bay area stuff. Coming from just east of Reno, I'll be there fri/sat/sun. Thought about taking 20 to Ft. Bragg then exploring north from there. Found a bunch of stuff on USAL, looks intriguing, but possibly too busy, maybe not this time of year. I'd like to camp weather dependant. I don't have any fancy camper or anything so I'd be ground tenting it. I do have good gear and some skills so barring something crazy I'll likely camp. Anything else around there a desert dweller would think is worth seeing? I'd be willing to set up a new camp each night or have a base camp. PM suggestions if you want them kept quiet. I can trade northern Nevada gems if you want. This is what I'll be in, if you see me give a wave.

Ground tent you’d be fine. You work your way to highway 20 and camp one night near in the BLM area of Indian Valley Reservoir then trek your way down to USAL for one night, then from there work your way up towards Shelter Cove.

I take it the trail is open again? Only drove it once a few years ago, came down from wentworth. Ridden up and back number of times, has it gotten any wider?

Which trail? If you're asking about the one from mosquito to the fed fire station on wentworth I've never seen it closed in the last 4 years. It's actually better since some of the extra large heavy equipment for the bridge construction comes down that road. They've filled in the mud pits for the most part and graded it a bunch. The rain this year rutted it out in some areas but it's not bad.

Spent some time at Shadow Cliffs in Livermore this morning. Landed a 4lb, 18” rainbow. Pretty slow morning, this was the only action but hell, I’ll take it. Catch and release of course.

I'd rather have one bigger fish then ten little ones any day. In another couple weeks the cutbows are gonna start spawning in Pleasant Valley Reservoir. It's always the most productive time of year to get into the big guys there. Can't wait.

Beer break. I need to lift it 1” more. Not going well. Just going to swap these 5100’s with 881’s on 2nd perch to something else.

I enjoyed Usal last time I went (10+ years ago) but I've heard it is busier now. When I went there were wildfires in northern CA and the smoke was bad.

Raised it another 1” and now clears 17x9 -12mm without any rub. Alignment helped also, best they can do without UCA. I’m satisfied.

Good to know there's at least one quality post out of 68k:rofl:

When I first dived in, I didn't know what I would like or not so now having a bunch of tools, it can maybe help you figure out what would work for you and what won't before buying
