Putting in a 3* SPC slide in shim with a previously installed OME heavy spring leaf pack to fix some vibrations. Think I'm answering my own question here but want to be sure so the axle doesn't do anything weird. How does someone check that the center pin is engaged into the axle? Reason I ask, is on the axle there is a hole about 1.25" from where the shim sits flush from the back of the truck. I marked that distance using a pick tool that I can fit between the pack and the back of the axle. The center of the axle is closer to 2" (maybe a bit more) from either front or back. Are there two holes on this axle, like on toward the back and one in the center? I just don't remember from when I did the install and I'm trying to avoid having to replace the leaf spring center pin....

Been too long since installing the OME springs on my truck...is the head of the center pin even long enough to go through the shim and still engage the hole in the spring perch?

I don't know, was kinda hoping it is. What's the point of a slide in shim if someone has to change the center pin anyway? I would have just bought a shim with a hole instead of a slot. SPC did include new pins with a washer to accommodate the depth, which was super nice of them.

That threaded nut, i got two for each centering pin. One i screwed all the way down to the base and then put it in the springs to act as like a spacer so it would extend through the shim. And then one of course to tighten from the top of the leaf pack.

Hey thanks for walking me through this. For anyone in the future, I took the pin out and the head on the OME pin does NOT seem long enough to engage well into the hole. YMMV. Barely thicker than the shim when the shim is all the way slid in. Any torque spec on these pins? After I C clamped the pack the OME pin had loosened, unscrewed with fingers. Crazy.

It isn't high torque but shouldn't only be finger tight. I want to say 35 ft lbs, but maybe wait for someone to post with more certainty on that.

The SPC pin is hella long compared to the OME. Had to drill out the bump stop. Oh, and the axle perch does have two holes.

It looks like there is a washer on the pin? You dont use a washer on the head of the bolt.

Why's that? The heads are damn near the same size. Without the washer on the head the SPC pin isn't going to engage in the hole either.

That "washer" is definitely intended to go on the perch side. I don't think he is following along with the thread. The extra length of the threads could have been cut off, but drilling the bump stop works.

Cool. For the bump I figured it was easier to drill the rubber than break out the grinder and cut the bolt. Thanks for everyone help, I really appreciate it

Come to think of it cutting the excess of the bolt is probably better. Will be sick if I ever bottom out hard enough to make the pin turtle head out of the top of the bump:)
