    Just a few bullet points

2008 Tacoma Prerunner Crew Cab 4.0L V6 RWD

Sometimes when shifting from park to drive it feels like I'm stuck in a higher gear. It moves forward but feels like I'm tied to a tree stump. This happens intermittently.

When it does happen, if I hold my foot on the brake and keep it in drive, it eventually after about 10 seconds feels like it shifts into gear and then moves forward with no issue. And it's not like it's not in gear but feels like im trying to take off in 6th gear if I were driving a manual.

After my post yesterday, I went to Toyota and had the transmission drained and refilled. Their service department did it for free since it wasn't checked when I bought it. It drove very well yesterday and felt like it had some more pep.

This morning I start the truck, put it in drive, it shifts into drive and it drives fine for about 15 ft. Normally it happens right away on a cold start and sometimes on a warm start.

And it's always when I go from park to Drive. Never if I'm in drive already or reverse. Like I said previously, intermittently happens.

Put it in park, my boys jumped in, put in drive and once agian, feels like I'm tied to a stump. Took my foot off the accelerator, kept my foot on the brake and a few seconds later, you feel a ever so slight shift or a clunk, put my foot on the accelerator and it's moving like nothing happened.

It drives fine, all the gears shift perfect except around 30-35mph where it wants to stay in a lower gear and not shift up. But most of my Toyotas feel that way.

Another odd thing I've been experiencing is a clunk. I think I need U Joints. I plan on doing those in a few weeks. Every so often at a street light, flat surface, when I let off the brakes and instantly feel a clunk nearly like bad u joints. I've had a few thoughts of maybe the rear drums are hanging up but they don't get hot and it only happens randomly.

I may have to take it back and have an inspection done but I have access to a rack, I have all the tools and if I can save myself $200 for an inspection or narrow it down somehow. I have other projects that would benefit from that money. It's so odd because it's completely random when it does happen. Like this morning, thought that when I shifted into drive and didn't feel it drag, it may have been solved with new fluid but put into park for 1 minute and once I put it back into drive hello lol like wtf.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I bet the rr parking brake cable broke. Use oe, only. Good luck! Check the ujoints and center bearing, too.

I'll put it on the rack this week and see if that's the case. Gotta help a friend do a rear diff first tomorrow and then I'll inspect the rear brakes and the cable.
