I am about to install my 2nd gen SC. I bought the Corolla cooler thermostat and when I went to go install it, it seemed WAY too small to fit in the housing properly.

    Am I doing something wrong?

Did you get a new o-ring... also I thought it was a Camry thermostat

All I got was the OEM Corolla thermostat that people have talked about here on this thread. Was I supposed to buy an o-ring with it?

I replaced the thermostat in my Subaru last year, it came with the rubber gasket attached to it, if that’s the o-ring you’re talking about. This Corolla one didn’t come with that, and I tried to see if my current one would fit the new thermostat, and it was way too big, which makes me think this thermostat is too small for the housing.

but again, many people have said and swore by them on here, so I’m stumped on what I’m doing wrong/what’s going on!

Confirm the OEM part number for the one you got. I am running the t-stat for ’98-’00 Corolla 90916-03107. Dimensionally it is the same as the 190° one that came out.

edit: The t-stat housing gasket part number is 16325-62010 and is a separate purchase.

i have the right PN written down, but was given 90916-03078, so there’s my problem. I’ll return it and ensure they give me the right part number this time. But good to know about the gasket, I just thought all thermostats came with them already on!

paid off truck with adding a supercharger is still a lot cheaper than a $50k+ truck that you’d still need to outfit to be comparable.

For many of us here, we would simply rather have a 1st Gen Tacoma.

My wife tells me all time to sell my Tacoma and she will cover the remaining $ to get me a top-of-the line 2024 Tacoma. Paid off. I tell her not a chance.

I think for most of us who are adding boost to our 25 year old rigs, it is precisely because we don't like or want something newer. We like what we have and want to enhance it.

Ran into a major problem when installing the SC. The long bolt for the dynamic tensioner goes into the tapped hole in the engine block.

Mine had never been used since 2002 and had been caked in rust/road grime. When cleaning out the hole, the threads came with it.

Had to drill it out with a 13/32 bit and HeliCoil it back to M10x1.25 to get the dynamic tensioner to work on my block.

Don’t know if anyone’s done this before, but just wanted to confirm it DOES work for those who never would have thought this would be a problem or who run into it down the road.

Test drive was successful after the installation was complete. I will update if it affects the dynamic tensioner down the road.

That would be the proper way. My threads got all messed up and in a pinch I jb welded a stud into the hole and nutted the tensioner onto that.

Hey boosted relatives (not quite bros because I got a 2nd gen…)

please PM me if anyone wants a brand new Gates Micro-V K040620 belt… gates says it fits the 5vz-fe “supercharger”… I assume the TRD, but double check…
I accidentally bought it when doing accessory belts on my 1997 4Runner and can’t return it.
Maybe this is my sign to boost the daily too :anonymous:

I am looking for a stock sized pulley for an mp62/TRD supercharger. The stock size is 2.37".

Anyone got an unused one laying around that you want to part with? Maybe a take-off when you changed to a 2.2' or a 2.1' pulley?

I'm missing the "Wire loom relocation bracket 00602-17620-077" for my SC swap. Does anyone have the measurements for it? What's the biggest difference between the original one, perhaps the mounting holes are extended a bit or the is it only the edges have been trimmed off? What are some solutions if I can't source/make one and would it be safe to have the wire loom hanging without it?

That bracket is used to relocate the dipstick tube away from the tensioner when the belt is off. You can install the tensioner and measure how far it needs to be relocated. I don’t have my truck with me, but my guess is that the holes are about 2” apart.

I think you may be referring to the "Dipstick relocation bracket 00602-17620-0078" (#5 on the image below or figure 30 in the TRD installation instructions). I have that piece but I don't have the #8 (figure 21 in the TRD installation instructions) which is for the wire loom, not the oil dipstick.

Ah yes. That piece holds the wire loom away from the tensioner and pulley. Just zip tie it away and you are good.

Hm, gotcha. I think the main difference of the wire loom bracket is the trimmed down edges so it would clear the tensioner bottom mounting hole and bolt. I'm just gonna cut my original bracket and hopefully that should be good, if not then zip tie it away as you said!
